www.Carbuyingtips.com. WOW! I just factory ordered a new car for the first time in 10 years. It was the first time that I have ever had to personally negotiate with new car dealers and let me tell you, it would not have been possible without this web site. Well, okay, I may have been able to walk in to the dealer without the advice dispensed at this site, but I certainly would have walked away paying a lot more.
This is an incredibly detailed site with as much information in it as you might find in a book on the same topic. Laced with what some people would consider cruel humor, it is an enjoyable read. The site's author, Jeff Ostroff, makes no bones about criticizing under-informed buyers right along with shady dealers. Follow his advice and read the ENTIRE site before you go shopping. Do what he tells you to do. Check out the online pricing sites, check your credit, read-up on negotiating skills and above all, USE THE SPREAD SHEETS he provides for free to calculate your purchase offer.
I used his method of completing my purchase offer and faxing it to 5 local dealers. I had the upper hand from the beginning in negotiations. The smart dealers will realize that these days, the numbers are out there for the smart consumer and will participate in the negotiations on those terms. I still had a couple of dealers trying to pull the "old tricks" and who were unwilling to talk straight numbers over the phone. But it was easy, based on my new-found knowledge and confidence, to weed these guys out and deal with the straight-shooters. From there it was a simple process of negotiating with an honest dealer who was willing to work with me.
As a woman and as a first-time new car purchaser, the right dealer respected me, treated me fairly and gave me an incredible deal. I never expected this to happen. I paid below invoice for my brand new 2001 vehicle with exactly the options I want. And I walked away with a good opinion of the dealership and salesman overall.
