How are you gonna feed those ponies?Sep 21 '00 Write an essay on this topic. So you got all the "go fast" goodies on your modern performance car or truck and your vechicle just isn't running right. Well, it is probably either your computer freaking out about all those aftermarket parts, or you are not delivering enough fuel to the engine. The only way to go in the modern era is fuel injection. If you are using a carburator, then you need to check what year it is and get updated on your induction systems. There are a lot of companies that are making fuel injection systems that will fit almost every application. I know about the Big Block Chevy applications and there are two different choices for fuel injection. Tuned Port Injection (TPI) or Direct Port Fuel Injection (DFI). The TPI uses the setup with runners like on the Camaros and Corvettes with the throttle body in front of the manifold and the DFI uses a carburator like manifold witht the throttle body on top. Most systems come with a 1000cfm throttle body, which can be upgraded, intake manifold, fuel pump, all the needed sensors, wiring harness, custom computer and chip. The TPI setup would have runners and the DFI setup would have fuel rails. These setups are in the price range from $1500-$5000. These fuel injection setups would increase mid and top end and throttle response. The computer plays a big role on how your motor is going to run. With the stock computer, it will not know what to do with all the extra air and fuel flow, it will switch from open loop which is at wide oped throttle (WOT), to closed loop. In my opinion, the best computer is from Accell. Their computer will adapt to the GM wiring harness, that means you do not have to rewire you whole car, and the best thing is that you can program the computer with a labtop computer. There are so many different things that you can change, you can change the shift points to when the injectors are fired. You can order any fuel injection setup and get the Accell sofware to program with. So, if you are still using the OLD carburators, wake up, and smell the fuel as its being injected. Get a fuel injection unit to feed that beasty motor!! |
