I am now the proud owner of 2 Explorer Sports, having recently purchased a 99 model to go along with my 97. These vehicles are fun to drive, both in the city and on the highway. A short wheelbase makes turns and parking very easy. I recommend the SOHC V6 engine - this thing flies!

Accelerating at 75 on the highway is no problem. There is also plenty of cargo room, especially if you fold down the rear seats.
Handling is good, with minimal roll compared to other 4x4's.

The premium stereo system is good, with the 6 disk conveniently located in the centre arm console. Controls are good and big....no swerves off the road while trying to change the channel! I've got both cloth and leather seats and find both equally comfy.

4x4 mode is good, however I've found that when braking at high speed I got considerable shake to both sides. [Interestingly my ABS has never kicked in...]

Mileage is not good...I get around 17 MPG, slightly better in the summer.
I'd also really like the front seats to recline to horizontal, or close to it, however the best I get is about 45 degrees.

All in all an excellent buy...I'm looking at trading in my 97 next Spring!
