How NOT To Drive

You're angry because you didn't get that promotion you thought you deserved. You're mad at your wife or husband because plans were made for the weekend and you wanted quiet time at home. A good friend just called you a moron because your great idea was not so great to him or her.

On top of all of this, you have other concerns that have been building up and have not been resolved yet. You don't think that others have problems as bad as yours. But guess what? There are thousands out there in this world that have much worse things happening to them. But you don't care to think of other people's problems. All that's on your mind is your own worries.

You're on the road already speeding from anger and another car passes you so all of that built-up anger suddenly explodes and you hit the accelerator and drive like a raving maniac.

If you find yourself agitated towards other drivers, try to understand that it's a symptom of built-up anger. Pull over and stop the car and take deep breaths to calm yourself down. This is easy to say but hard to do, but you can hurt or kill someone if you let road rage control you.

Being in a position to exercise power over other drivers may be gratifying for a little while but anger just builds and in the long run, it doesn't solve anything. That bundle of nerves you are carrying is what is making you angry. What happens on the road is only a temporary release...a very dangerous temporary release.

The next time you are upset about something, remember that you have many other lives to consider while driving a car. Again I repeat, PLEASE PULL OFF THE ROAD and take deep breaths, count to ten and think about something worse that could have happened to you. Keep telling yourself that it's not the end of the world and this too shall pass.

Road rage is a deadly illustration of how crankiness can transform into mortal combat with just a push on the accelerator or a turn of the wheel. So, it's much wiser to find room inside your anger to just use that turn of the wheel to pull over and think that whatever angers you should be handled with a calm mind.
