The Bottom Line An educated salesperson is a customers best friend.
Well it may not be a car but a 2000 Jimmy. Yes I broke down and we went shopping for a new truck. I was actually looking forward to it because I had such a great experience when buying my present car. My father was a GM employee and they have that great deal option 1 or option 2 which translates to GMO and GMS. Basically you can buy your auto off the lot with a discounted price on the invoice or you can order it from the factory and that will be a different percentage off the invoice. Either way you go it saves you money. Unfortunately, with the technological age upon us and the world wide web consumers walking into a car dealership are more prepared to talk options than the salesman is prepared for. We were prepared with printed material off that dealers website and the salesman was at a loss when we started to ask about specific features. When he finally regained his composure he sat us in front of a terminal and started to go through the options we wanted just like we did on the internet. I do have some patience so we answered his question one by one. Then he went to print the information. That took 15 minutes because the printer was not connected to the computer he used and he had to go to his bosses ofice and input the information again. Well, to say the least we did not buy our truck there. We went to the dealer I had purchased my car from. The salesman there took the same information we showed the other salesman and offered us to take the truck out for a spin while he worked up the information from what we had already researched and upon return took us in his office with coffee and ready to answer our questions. After our visit to the first dealership we were contemplating purchasing our vehicle online just like the Saturn commercial. The commercial showed a college student looking for vehicles via internet and the first look at the salesman was while he was dropping the new vehicle off. My opinion is if businesses are going to offer a website to do research for a product, they need to train their personnel to handle the different kinds of consumers walking into their door. Some people are going to need guidance from the salesperson to find out the new and latest technology being offered. More likely the person studied every website to come in already knowing what they want and just need that person to input the order.  |
