Driving alone safelyJun 17 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I am a single woman who lives in an inner city. I have some tips that I use to try and be safe when getting in and out of my car and when I am driving that I feel could help others. --When getting into your cars have your keys ready. --There are many types of small flashlight devices that you can attach to your keychain that makes it easier to find your lock in the dark. --Lock your car doors when driving. It makes it easier for someone to get into your car if unlocked. --Put your purse on the floor not on the car seat when driving. You don't want to tempt a thief. If leaving it in the car put it in the trunk. --When you are parking in a parking garage try to park as close to the building entrance as possible. It will make it quicker and easier to get to your car. Make sure you park in a well-lighted area. -This is an additional way to protect yourself when getting into your car. I have a two door car I flip the passenger door forward when I leave the car. When I get back to the car I check the seat position to make sure no one has been in my car and might be hiding there. --When driving alone you need some extra tips for staying alert. Start your trip as early in the day as possible. Take breaks often. Keep the car cool if possible it is easier to stay awake. Avoid long drives at night. --If you have car trouble pull safely off the road and out of the way of traffic. Stay with your car. If you have a cell phone, call for help and tell them where you are. If someone stops to help stay in your car. Tell them the kind of help you need and ask them to make a call for you if you have not already done it. You can keep a "Call Police" sign in your car. You can then put it in the window and then many drivers will know you need help. --If you have a cell phone you can preprogram 9-1-1 or your roadside service number so you will have it if needed. These are a few of the ideas I use. I hope I have given you a new idea or two.  |
