I went and purchased the Whistler 1670 because frankly I drive too fast. At least faster than the posted speed limit! I have owned other Whistler products in the past and they have all proven to be reliable and they have held up quit well with a lot of use. I trusted their new products would be even better.

This radar detector is supposed to warn for K Band, KA Band, Laser, X Band, VG2 and also warns of Road Hazards in areas that have this. The first one I purchased was returned to the store because it did not work! I would see the police officer on the side with his radar before the unit would alarm. This is not good! If they had shot me (with radar) I would have been "pinched" before I could react. I took this unit back to the store. I figured okay maybe just a bad unit. I took another unit in exchange. I used this one for about two months. It worked great! I used it on trips and around town. No problems at all. In fact I hardly had any "false" signals.

Last week while on a trip to MD the unit died on me. It lost ALL sound. I tried to re-set it like I was told but no luck. A radar detector that has no sound is useless. So here I am with a unit that cost me $220 and is less than two months old. I can not return it to the store because they say it is up to Whistler now on if they want to repair it or replace it. I really expected when I made this purchase that the unit would perform and last like my previous models had. Big mistake on my part. I should have checked ratings here at Epinions first! I could have spent less money and had a more reliable machine. I would not recommend this unit to anybody. But if you insist on buying one I know where you can get one barely used and cheap!
