The best way to detail your carMar 07 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Over the years I have owned several vehicles and not to pat myself too hard on the back, I have always received complements on how nice my cars always look. Detailing your car the right way can be both fun and a very rewarding experience. First, when your car looks great you feel good about it and that goes a long way to taking the sting out of monthly payments and/or repair bills. Secondly, keeping your car clean and the paint in good shape can add several hundred dollars to its value when you go to sell it or trade it in. I owned a 91 Geo Prism with over 150,000 miles on it and I don't mind telling you that it looked like a brand new car. None of the people who saw it believed it had that kind of mileage. Even the dealer who I traded it to did not believe it. He liked it so much he bought it for his daughter who was on her way to college. You should begin detailing by thoroughly washing you vehicle with a good automobile soap,(try to do this in a shady area as it will reduce spotting and keep the paint cool before the application of your wax). There are several brands at your local auto parts store. My personnel preference in Turtle Wax brand. It is one of the less expensive and does a great job. After washing is complete dry the vehicle with a soft towel or a shamy. I have always used old bath towels for drying and buffing. A good stash of old bath towels is cheaper than a shamy and when dirty can be washed in your household washing machine. The next step in your detailing would be the application of Armor All to your trim and tires. This step may not be necessary for people, but it is a small thing that really brings out the detail in a good wax job. The best method is to pour a small portion of the product your are using into a bowl and saturate a small rag with it. Apply this rag directly to the surface of the trim or tire sidewall. Make sure you do the interior of the car first, trim second and tires last. Go over each area again with a dry cloth. One of the main benefits to applying your Armor All this way is that during the application of your wax you are apt to get minor overlapping of the wax onto your trim. The Armor All will not allow the wax to set up on your trim so you can wipe it off easily otherwise it can be a very difficult thing to remove. Before you apply the wax to your vehicles paint make sure it is cool to the touch and in the shade! Now the type of wax you use is entirely up to you. There are far too many products available for me to give you my opinion on each, (though I have used them all). Personally I have found the new formulas to give superior shine and luster to my vehicles and last the longest on the paint, (evidenced by how well water beads up on the surface several months afterwards). My favorite is Finnish 2000. I apply it with small round cotton applicator in about two foot square areas and let it dry to a haze, then buff it off with a soft towel. I have used this product on everything from BMW's to Hyundais and the results are amazing! The last step is to clean your windows inside and out. You can do this with any glass cleaner and paper towels. That is it. Your car looks like it did from the showroom and you feel good about owning it. You can maintain that shine by always washing in the shade with a quality car soap and drying it with your soft towel. Have fun and happy motoring! |
