Use Your Damn Signal!

You may not think that the turn signal is an important part of your vehicle. However, it can be just as important as your seatbelt, an airbag, or those ABS breaks. It may actually save your life.

Here's the reason why. I am on the road. So are other drivers just like me. You may be 1000 yards ahead of me and you may not think that that little speck in your mirror is important, but I am counting on you.

I'm making incredible maneuvers back here. I'm changing lanes, down-shifting, accelerating and braking. Driving like this takes a lot of concentration and I am constantly scanning the road. I need to process the visual clues that I receive and come to a quick and accurate prediction of what every other driver is going to do within the next 5 seconds.

A signal may tell me that you will be breaking within the next few seconds to turn onto another road. A signal may tell me that you are changing lanes and that the visual path that I have plotted out in my head will have to be changed.

Also, don't turn on your signal halfway through your maneuver. It's too late! You've already made me slam on my breaks or swerve to avoid you. This little act does not absolve you of the responsibility for the accident that you just caused.

Remember, your turn signal is there for my benefit, but it is also there for your safety.
