How To Avoid Car AccidentsJul 06 '00 Write an essay on this topic. There are a couple of easy tips to follow in order to reduce the chance of getting in a car accident. Obviously, it is not possible to avoid 100% of car accidents. My car was damaged about eight when I was side swiped in a hit and run accident and there was no way I could have avoided it. There is always going to be some crazy driver out there breaking every single possible driving and traffic law ever placed on the law books. But here a couple of ideas on how to reduce your risk on the roads. Driving and Cell Phones Don't Match First, keep those peripheral distractions at a minimum. Nothing I hate worse than driving down the highway at sixty-five miles per hour and I see this stupid driver next to me on his cell phone. This is someone you do not want to drive near. There should be some type of law that if you are driving a moving car, you should not be on a cell phone. There is absolutely no excuse to be on the cell phone on an expressway. If the call is that important, pull over to a rest stop. To avoid this driver, I will either speed up or slow down so as to stay out of the way of this idiot on the road. Anybody who does this activity should think just how dumb is. You are putting people at risk all around you. You have the mental distraction of the conversation along with the physical annoyance of the holding the phone itself. You are operating a multi-ton machine going sixty-five miles an hour while all this is going on. Get a clue!Think about how stupid and ridiculous that is. Other Ideas Driving on someone's bumper is also another pet peeve. Give me at least two car lengths behind me so I do not feel as though you are hitched to the back of my car. The extra twenty or so feet will delay your arrival time by about 0.01 seconds. I do not think this is a major time loss. Reduce your speed when weather conditions warrant. A good rule of thumb is the ten percent rule. If you feel road conditions are bad, reduce your speed by ten percent. This will improve not only your control but the handling of the car on the slippery roads. I Have A Turning Signal? Yes you do! Use turning signals when applicable. This will help other drivers understand what you are going to do next. If I know what the driver in front of me or to the side of me is going to do, this will allow me to react responsibly and properly on the road. These are just a few of the things to do on the road to be a good defensive driver. |
