Am I Stupid? Why you should buy American AND Foreign.

My opinion is a reaction to American vs. Foreign.

Ok, maybe you're right. Some American cars aren't that great. Some Japanese cars aren't also as great. I don't completely disagree with the opinion that American cars aren't well built, but its coming along. My dad has a 1989 Chevy Celebrity, and it's got 100,000+ miles. Only major problem? Fuel injectors at 80,000. He's willing to pay and extra $300 for new injectors. That's American, and it's well built.
My mom has a Honda Civic Ex. Oh, Japanese car, right? NO. The car is built in AMERICA. Civic's are built in East Liberty, Ohio, USA. The car contains 70% of American built parts, by American hands. How's the car run? It's got 20,000 miles, and its running good. Now, Hondas have good quality, and are know run for 20 years without problems. If Honda of Japan didn't believe American hands could built a reliable car, then why build it here? The car may be designed in Japan, but its reliably built in America. The important thing is how the car is built.
Designing is important too, but building is also important. I've seen a new BMW missing an axle on the highway. A brand new one. A German car. Hmm... Someone forgot to bolt it down.
How about this example. The Acura CL. The car is DESIGNED in CALIFORNIA, and built in OHIO. How's it run? My friend loves it. That's basicly 100% American.
How about some bad things... My dad had a 1985 Subaru GL Station Wagon. Subaru's are know for their reliablity. I've seen MANY Subaru's with over 200,000 miles. Wow... But my dad's had more problems than you can imagine. It must have been built by a guy that returned from vacation on a Monday. Ohh, this by the way, is a Japanese company, and built in Japan.
Another reason American is good? MUSCLE. Take the Camaro Z28 for example. That car will launch you so fast that you'll be holding onto the seat. It's fast. It has lots and lots of torque. And its a lot cheaper than a VR 3000.
Take the Corvette. Its a FRACTION of the price of a NSX. I personally like both cars, and I can see how both cars edge each other out in some catergories. But overall, the Vette is faster than the NSX AND cheaper. By alot. And it's built well.
I like foreign and American. There's some foreign I wouldn't buy, and some American I wouldn't buy. But I see no problem with American. Just pick the right kind of American. Same with foreign. The previous post said that you would be stupid if you bought American cars? We have American and Japanese. I drive my dad's Chevy, and I also drive my Integra (made in Japan I might add) around. I like them both. I do all the maintence on them. Am I stupid? No. I know LOTS about cars. I gurantee you I know more than the average person. You need to be educated about the cars. You can't even spell brake right. Get the broad picture. All cars have problems. I'm not saying American is the best, nor that they don't have problems, but that doesn't mean American is crap. American can hold it's own with many foreign.
