Carmax fought in my corner!

I decided I needed a new-used car when my old piece-o-junk told me it needed a new transmission. I kept looking at the recent car inventory for several websites in my home town. I began to frequent Carmax's website.
Then, one glorious day, I found my dream car that was actually in my price range. I couldn't believe it. It was a Friday. I spent a lot of the day researching the car. I got pre-approved for a car loan from my bank, so I could have a negotiation. I also got the Kelley Blue Book value on the car I wanted. Carmax was offering the car for a good $4,000 less than blue book value. I couldn't believe it!
I went directly to Carmax after I got off work. I went up to the first person I saw, and told her I wanted to look at the blue Mustang. I showed her the paper I had printed out with the stock number. She was very impressed with how prepared I was.
We went outside and I told her I wanted to test drive it. We went to an office and proceeded to put my information in the computer system and got the dealer auto tag. We walked outside, and the car was GONE!
I couldn't believe my luck. Well, it turned out that another sales lady had decided to let a girl and her mother test drive it without doing any of the legalities. They got back, and we test drove it next.
I knew I wanted to buy that car. There was no doubt about it. But when we got back to the office, the girl and her mother had already been approved for the loan, and the car was theirs. I was upset, understandably.
But what happened next is what really sold me on Carmax. My sales lady went straight to her boss and explained the situation. Then, all of the "head honcho boss people" held a 30 minute conference to decide who got the car.
As it turns out, going through the legal processes first is what I won the fight with. But Carmax was very fair, and that is what makes me happy in the long run. I had already thought that if the girl got the car, there was something better waiting for me, I just wasn't supposed to have THAT mustang.
Carmax handled themselves very well, and were very nice in the process. I have no doubt that I will go back to them in the future.
