I just purchased a 2001 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer. The price was high($35,000 with tax) but I really liked the color (spruce green).
My first drive was a great disappointment. The seat was hard and uncomfortable. The ride was just like a truck. A closer look at the poor workmanship revealed parts did not fit properly. It also had Firestone tires, but I was told they were not on the recall, yet.
Ford has quietly been removing some of the standard features while increasing the price. A previous model had running board lights and "Eddie Bauer" stitched into the front seats. I wonder how many other things I did not see.
I called Ford and told them how unhappy I was, and asked them if something could be done. Ford never returned my call.
If you want to buy an overpriced, poorly made SUV, from a company that will give you no support, you should buy a FORD EXPLORER.
