Pros: Massive yet frugal V6, tons of horsepower, great in winter, stunning looks Cons: Cornering, no dual sliders, CD player and AWD are options
This is the third best vehicle I have ever driven, second only to a Porsche and a Cadillac. My Safari is a 1998 and I have about 18,000 miles on it already. (I also had two Chevy Astros before this.) It is the best minivan overall (along with its Chevy...

Pros: large interior, well placed amenities, great price Cons: clunky exterior
My husband and I looked at all the minivans available. At first, we balked at the thought of a Safari, citing the clunky, old-style exterior as a major deterrent. Finally, a friend convinced us to take a test drive, and I'm so glad she did!

Pros: great room, comfort and versatile Cons: a bit pricey
My husband and I started out in a small sports car, before the three kids, and slowly worked our way up. When we finally broke down to buy a mini van it was only because an accident totaled our vehicle. Driving a rental van for a month sold us on our...

Pros: towing, cargo, seating Cons: not reliable, not dependable
I bought the AWD Safari because of the towing capacity and the seating room. I loved the van until around 35,000. Please keep in mind that I maintain my vehicles very well. 3,000 oil changes, scheduled maintenance, etc. Also, the van is not driven...

Pros: Size, comfort, performance Cons: Larger vehicle so requires more gas
Well, we finally broke down and traded in the Trooper for a larger vehicle.
After weeks of searching and test driving many minivans we finally came up on a Astro van. We loved it but didn't end up getting it because it had way to many miles on it....

Pros: Size, seating, comfort Cons: looks, weight of seats
The GMC Safari has lived up to my expectations in almost all aspects. One of the main reasons that I leased it to start with was the interior space, this has proven itself to be more than enough. Due to the fact I required 8 seats the choice of mini van...

Great People Mover
by thumper141 ,Jan 14 '04
Pros: Well built, reliable. Cons: None
This is our second AWD Safari , we've been driving them
for 12 years. The 1998 we purchased in 1999 has the raised roof package with built in TV / VCR / and the connections for the game console / DVD.For us ,the nearest city is a five hour drive ,throw in a movie for the kids and you don't hear the " are we there yet " every 10 minutes ".The first Safari we had was an LT model and had two bench seats in back , The 1998 is an LS and it has quads + a bench. Personally I liked the option of removing the two bench seats .. I could lay a sheet of plywood flat inside and still close the doors. We live in northern Canada so the AWD is put to use many days through the year and ,well, let me put it to you this way . I also owned a four wheel drive truck for a couple of years ..it could not hold a candle to the handling of the AWD safari. It reminds me of a caddy , it doesn't have to be reinvented every three years to maintain sales.
