Pros: room Cons: cost
We have a 1998 transport and we absolutely love it. We have had almost a year and a half and have had little problems with it. It had to have a new power window motor put in and a new radio, but it was covered under warranty. The pontiac service is...

Pros: Roomy, powerful, comfortable. Cons: Cost, slow defroster
I purchased my 1998 Trans Sport in June of 1999, after test driving a 1997 Montana. I bought this model because it has the two back sliding doors. That was the one thing Hubby said he wanted after driving the '97 Montana with just the one door in the...

Pros: comfortable, handles well, and front wheel drive Cons: I haven't seen one yet
I love this vehicle because I have three kids in sports and I have to run them and their friends to different sporting events. Before I got this van I had a small car and there was never enough room for my kids, their equipment, and their friends. Well,...

Pros: Style, Dual Sliding Doors, Comfortable Cons: Seats are not user friendly for small hands
Averaging just over 3500 miles a month for the last 3 years, my Pontiac minivan has pulled its duty as a family vehicle. The extended van has enough room for my family of five and their constant flow of friends to accomodate with comfort that you would...

Pros: Planned room and seating are very functional. Not many vans can seat 8. Cons: Cheap interior parts. Everything breaks.
We were quite happy with the TransSport when we purchased it new, in 1998. We liked the flexibility of folding and removable seats; two side doors. We also liked the low financing, and the family discount that GM offers. We liked the roof rack, and ...

Pros: This van has good looks and is very functional to meet passenger and cargo needs. Cons: Poor engineering
Hey, this van looks pretty good (as far as a van goes) and meets a family's needs. Reliability problems have soured my experience with the Trans Sport. With 28K miles the transmission (rebuilt) and power steering have been replaced, 3 leaking...

Pros: Front Wheel Drive, 2 Sliding Doors, Removable Seats Cons: Parts are hard to get, minor bugs to work out
The Pontiac Trans Sport Van is somewhat of a good/bad vehicle. One good thing is that it has two rear sliding doors. It also has front wheel drive, and where I live front wheel drive is a life saver in the snow and ice. The removable rear seats are...

Pros: Features Cons: they don't always work
I bought this vehicle to haul 5 kids around. I love the cosmetics of the vehicle as well as the features. I hate the small problems that seem to multiply with this vehicle. I only have 29,000 miles on this vehicle and already I have had to replace the...

Pros: Sleek Styling, Fun to drive Cons: Bad Transmissions
After owning both 1992 and 1994 Pontiac Trans Sport mini vans, I would not recommend purchasing either of these models. We had major transmission problems with both vehicles and had to completely replace both transmissions to the tune of some $4,500....

Pros: A smooth ride. Cons: A/C system.
I'm the type of person, who just needed to buy a new/used vehicle. As we all know, we first begin by doing some research followed by the features and options of the vehicle. When I decided to buy, I went to look at the showroom display they were...

Pros: Hauls lots of stuff. Seats comfy enough for long rides, spills wipe up easily. Cons: The tint is too dark, making it hard to back up at night.
Been driving our 1998 Pontiac TransSport for about a year now and could not be happier with it. We bought ours with all of the options (leather, traction control, load leveling) and have been very happy with it. It had about 60k miles on it when we ...

Don't purchase for any reason
by mikeandleslie ,Jan 03 '07
Pros: Looks nice; has great power; drives nice. Cons: Bad chronic expensive problems with the intake manifolds. All labor and parts are VERY expensive.
I would not recommend this van for any reason. I own one. It looks nice; it drives nice; BUT, anything that goes wrong with the van will cost you more then an arm and leg. It has chronic very expensive problems with the intake manifolds. If a window regulator goes out, you cannot have it fixed for $150 like most other cars; this will require you replace the whole assembly at over $800 P/L. The plastic headlights cost $310 each to replace because they do not sell the lens, you must pay for the whole PLASTIC assembly. I have a large list of repairs that cost way more then repairs on most other vehicle. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VAN unless you have money to throw away.

240k miles and finally might need a transmission
by ed4244 ,Dec 19 '05
Pros: Great car reliable and lots of space for all things; bikes camping etc.
Cons: none
I bought this car new in 1989 when they first came out and have been driving it ever since. I have had no major problems with car other than standard replacement parts such as fuel pump, alternator, etc. Unbelievable service from this car. Thanks GM!!
The car is in the garage and I'm waiting to see if the transmission needs replacing.

1998 PONTIAC transport extended model
by g8591 ,Nov 26 '03
Pros: great minivan for the buck compared to all the others. Cons: could have more 12volt accessory plugs inside. really hard to take out rear seat.
really great minivan! we have had this one for two years now. we are a family of five that go camping, go up to the mountain cabin in the winter etc. this minivan gets us there with no problems. we have looked at the caravan, windstar etc. but they do not compare to the room, comfort and reliability that the transport delivers. it is well designed in the aerodynamics dept. i comes with a fast 3.4l engine. { great acceleration off the start } it has 76,000
miles and is still in great shape. it has had a noise in the engine when first starting it since the day we bought it { like a rod knock } but i cant figure it out. other than that i rate it a 8 and as i write this we are getting a 2001 montana ext. minivan }{ go with the extended models because of the extra room. } you will love it.
