Pros: I feel secure driving it. Roomy & Comfortable Interior Cons: A little Rugged on the Highway in Severe Rain
We bought our 1999 Explorer three months ago as an extra vehicle that will last. My husband and I both have reliable cars, but when the weather is bad here in the South you can't rely on snowplows and salt trucks to clear the roads. We believe we still...

Pros: Runs like a dream Cons: Could use more room in the back
Last June my husband and I were in the market for a new vehicle. We had bought a mini van 3 yrs prior.(A 1991 Ford Areostar). I loved our van and didn't really think we needed a new one, except that the air conditioner never worked and it was starting to...

Pros: gas mileage for a SUV, traction/handling Cons: not as quiet as a sedan, bumpier ride
We are the proud owners of a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT. We purchased it because we wanted a vehilcle that can handle western New York winters, carry two adults and two older teenage sons, and pull a large "pop up" camper trailer. At the same...

Pros: Good looking, reliable, holds resell well, insurance rates are low. Cons: Gas Mileage, interior space, troublesome parts failures (Oil Sending Unit, MAF sensor).
I bought my '99 Explorer in 2002 with 60,000 miles on it. To begin, I'll say that I have been satisfied with the truck. I hope to keep this truck for many many miles and years, it's enjoyable to drive and it's a good looking vehicle. There are some drawba ...

Pros: Great color, multi-tasking vehicle, wonderful on the highway, city streets and lakeshores. Carries lots of fishing equipment! Also has easy-to-clean interior. Cons: Lessened control on rough terrain at speeds over 30 mph. The Sport model only has 3 doors, so when you have passengers in the back seat, it is slightly more troublesome to enter and exit the vehicle.
I recently leased an Explorer and it is great so far; handles well, smooth ride, plenty of power even in the V-6 version. Split seats in back fold down for transporting large items and the back door can be fully opened or just partially opened at the...

Pros: versatility, comfort, style, 4 wheel drive, power Cons: needs better fuel economy
99 Explorer Sport
I recently purchased a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. And when asking myself why I purchased it, I recalled being in high school and having the usage of a "SWEET" 1988 Jeep Wrangler. It was one of the most fun,...

Pros: Nice luxury, flexibility, safety Cons: Rough ride for passengers, high profile handling in bad weather
I bought my Eddie Bauer Edition of the Ford Explorer a little over a year
ago and I love it more every day! This was purchased to replace an older
car and a lot of thought was given to the SUV vs car dilemma. I opted for the SUV for the...

Pros: Great Handling, Excellent Power, Smooth & Quiet V-6 Engine,Shorter Length Cons: Gas Mileage,Rear Seats almost an afterthought
I previously owned a 1998 Ford Windstar and was looking for something smaller yet capable of hauling cargo and a trailer. I also wanted 4-wheel drive with an automatic transmission since I drive sometimes 60 miles each way to work and back over back...

Pros: cost, ride quality, engine power, interior comfort Cons: gas mileage, comfort for passengers over 6'1
When I was sixteen, my folks bought me my first car. It was a used Grand Torino...a real piece of junk! Never stayed out of the shop for more than 2-months at a stretch. My second car was a new Chevy Cavalier Z-28. Let's just say that after the...

I purchased my '99 Ford Explorer in May of '99. As to this date I've not regretted this purchase. I received great service from my Ford dealer. There have been several recalls but now of them of any great importance. I have 2 teenage children and they...

Pros: Roomy, solid, quiet, comfortable---the best of the best Cons: Typical SUV ride and handling (but not as bad as some others), media sniping
After leasing a '97 4-cylinder, 5-speed Ranger for two years, and finding that my first truck would definitely *not* be my last truck, I looked at six SUVs to replace the Ranger when the lease expired.
I drove a Durango, a Blazer, an Explorer,...

Pros: Good for the whole family Cons: A bit bumpy ride
Ford Explorer: I love it.
First off, I have two children -- ages 3 and 9 months.
Second, I am not the 'minivan' type.
Third, I like camping and other outdoor activities.
I was a little bit leary of getting an...
