Pros: great handling and turning radius, safety and convenience features Cons: gas mileage
Last spring, I needed to trade in my rear-wheel drive 1994 Explorer Sport for a four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive vehicle since I was in the process of moving to a cold weather climate. If I’d moved to a warmer climate or remained in Virginia, I...
Pros: Great layout and comforts for driver Cons: Headroom with moonroof
This is actually the 2nd explorer I've owned now. The first was a '98 XLT model loaded that I was very pleased with - there were NO problems with it, I just traded in and upgraded because the 1st was getting on in miles and I was interested in having as...

My wife and I have been shopping around for a new vehicle. We finally chose the Ford Expedition XLT. Well we continued shopping around anyway and put in a price quote with carorder.com. They said they could put me in an Expedition (Eddie Bauer) for...
Pros: handling, comfort, reliability, price Cons: Windshield Wipers, Gas Milage
Prior to owning my first Explorer, a 1998 Sport, I have owned at one time or another many of Ford's non truck models. Before leasing my first Explorer Sport model I had leased two Taurus SHO 's, their top of the line sedan. What made me change from a...
Pros: Spacious, Seats 5, Looks okay Cons: Bad Rap in the latest Headlines
We purchased the 2000 Ford Explorer 4WD XLT Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) back in August of 99. We previously owned a Mustang GT, and a Camaro z28. (Yeah, Huge change) The reason we chose this SUV is because we were able to get the dealer to come off the...
Pros: off roading, lower speed handling, decent features Cons: snow handling, power, gas
My model - 2000 Ford Explorer XLT - AWD, not Four Wheel Drive. Interior- Weak on luxury, technology could and should have been a bit better. But it does what it needs to do. Sound system is pretty decent for only four speakers and no amp. Easy to ...
Pros: Best size & options for SUV's in this class Cons: Higher insurance
My husband & I recently bought a Ford Explorer after much research & study. We decided on a Sports Utility & then had to decide which one. We had many times driven or been in my father-in-law's Ford Expedition. This was out of our price...
Pros: Quiet ride, quick acceleration, sturdy design, reliable Cons: Luxury car price (originally was $33,000) without much of the luxury stuff
Six months ago my parents bought a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT. We needed something that was comfortable and something that had an engine big enough to tow our camping trailer. We looked at four other different cars: The Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango,...
Pros: comfort, safety, effective anti-theft system Cons: low gas mileage, take a long time to heat up in the winter
I recently bought a new 2000 Explorer XLT after driving my 1992 Explorer Sport into the ground. I will be honest that I did not even shop around before buying my new explorer because I was so happy with my old one. However, the newer models have even...
Pros: Very comfortable ride - luxurious interior Cons: Gas guzzling - dash gauges seem cheap
Back in 1989 I burned through two Ford Escorts in a little over 2 years. The Escorts had problems that required a lot of adjustments - granted I was in my late teens/early twenties but I did take good care of them. When the 2nd died I vowed to stay away...
Pros: Easy of driving, good accessory mix, good view of road Cons: Fuel economy could be better
The 2000 Ford Explorer XLT is easy to like and easy to drive. This is our first SUV. After last winter's snow, we decided that a four-wheel drive would give us safer traction if we got similar snows this year. We are prepared for whatever comes. ...
Pros: Affordable, Good handling, safe Cons: Too small for some purposes
In a time when SUVs are getting bigger and bigger (Excursion, Suburban, etc.) the Ford Explorer Sport stands out as a quality vehicle, not only relative to size, but also overall. It is loaded to the gills with features, with the top of the line...
The ford explorer... one of the best vehicles on today's market. this all weather sports utility vehicle is 4 wheel drive and ready to plow through any type of weather conditions. i have leased 2 explorers over the past 3 years and i can be the first...
Pros: Functional SUV from Ford, the top SUV company Cons: Price, power, need for a regular SUV
The New Explorer Sport Trac is a very versatile SUV. While it isn't quite on sale yet, when it is you'll notice it. This is a hybrid vehicle; a four-door SUV with a truck bed about four feet long. This vehicle shares its front-end styling with the new...
Pros: lots of toys, big tires, good power Cons: lots of things to go wrong, too small for serious work
I don't buy vehicles very often. The last new one I bought was a 1981 Bronco, which I drove for nearly twelve years, through mud and snow, on the highway, in town and out. The brakes weren't great, and the engine seals leaked oil, but those could be...
Pros: Great Handling and Performance Cons: SUV Gas Milage
I recently purchased a Ford Explorer Sport - it came with all of the options except for leather and was brand new. It handles great and has a strong and sturdy frame. It takes off very well because it has a strong V-6 and is lighter than a normal SUV....
Pros: good value for your money Cons: rough idling
This xmas my wife took me to the ford dealer to see a vehicle. A lot of our friends own and drive Ford Explorers and we have heard many good things about it but to tell the truth, I wasn't too thrilled.
Pros: Power,Maneuverable,Good Looks,Comfort Cons: Front Seat Closeness,
It has only been 500 miles since I picked up my new Explorer Sport, but already I'm sure it is more fun to drive than my previous '93 XLT. I may regret the choice of color (Black), looks great when clean but dirties quickly.
Side step rails tend...
It is a great feeling when driving the food explorer. We leased a 1998 XLS Explorer and love it. I feel very secure when driving the Ford Explorer. It has a good pick up, not bad on gas and has a smooth ride. I drive the explorer back and forth to...

Pros: Handles off-road and on-road riding good Cons: It sometimes get's loud in the car
The Ford Explorer was one of the best investments i have ever made. That stuff that people say about a car flipping over isn't true with this SUV. You feel safe when you're behind the wheel. The car rides smooth and is great for long trips with lots of...
Christmas was not very long and for my birthday I got a Ford Explorer. When I first saw it I immeadiatly fell in love with it. It is red and is a four by four. It drives very smooth and is very comfortable as well. The ford, to me, is probably the...
Pros: Roomy, comfortable, reliable Cons: Interior has problems
We bought our first Explorer, a 1991, we were admittedly naive in the SUV-buying field. It was our first SUV purchase, and we were young enough to go for the best "deal" (read: cheapest) SUV for sale. Unfortunately, the dealership we dealt with was not...
Yes we can all say that SUV's have been popular in the 90's. Well the New 2000 Explorer is quite amazing. The stylish exterior is very hip and trendy, and comes in a lot of different finishes. What's great about this car is the interior. It is nice,...
Pros: Tight Steering. ABS brakes have a nice feel. Handles well in adverse weather. Cons: Too much "plastic" on XLTs... Center console, Fog light trim, dome lights.
I enjoy my 4 door 2000 XLT with automatic 4WD. The 4.0 V6 SOHC engine seems to have the right mix between power and gas economy for my needs. I do not tow anything heavy. But judging by the high revs when accelerating uphill, I might be concerned about...
Pros: great comfort and reliability Cons: gas mileage under 20
I'm considering starting an on-line ford explorer club, do you think there is interest? I see many such clubs on the web for Mustangs, Camaros, Eclipses etc. There seems to be as many Explorers out there as anything so I think there could be a need for...

Pros: nice car, looks good Cons: has "STEAL ME" written all over it
Entering this vehicle without a key is easy. On some models, keyless entry systems are in use. This consists of a number pad on the driver door. The owner simply punches a combination to enter the vehicle.

Pros: great handling, comfortable ride Cons: gas, some blind spots
I really wanted a Jeep, but my wife and the 0.9%APR really talked me out of it, and I am really happy that it happened. My wife had a RAV4, previous to our marriage, and I fit in that thing like a polar bear in the sahara. I was tight, cramped and I...
Pros: Nice interior features Cons: Poor mileage and not great power
I rented a Ford Explorer 2000 for 3 days and was unimpressed. This was an 8 cylinder and had less than 1K miles on it. The gas mileage must have been around 14-15. The first thing I noticed in the rental parking lot was the Firestone tires on the...
I had been needing a new car. A larger, family vehicle that could be taken on camping trips and carry along all of my family members. I had had my eyes on the Ford Explorer for a while, but I wasn't sure if that was what I was going to decide on. ...
I test drove and was about to buy this vehicle. It is large and roomy, but somehow even on the luxury model it doesn't feel luxury. It has a very basic feel to it. After test driving this vehicle I looked this vehicle up in the Consumers Report. This...
Pros: Build quality, ease of operation Cons: Not for off road, noisy front suspension
After having driven Ford Explorers both for personal use and for work, I have found it to be a competent vehicle with some exceptions. As a personal vehicle for day to day use, there are not many competitors that can match the Explorer for price,...

Pros: looks nice Cons: bad seats, bumpy ride, small gas tank
I recently had the opportunity to drive a NEW (less than 1 month old) Ford Explorer XLT. I approached this car with an open mind. I'd heard good things (from my mother, the owner of the car in question) as well as bad things. (from those who didn't own...
What can I say other than WOW? This really is one of the greatest vehicles on the market today. The Ford Explorer has great handling and rides very smoothly. The inner portion of the Explorer has more than plenty of room to allow you to drive with the...
I loved this car. It is comfortable, stylish, and rides like a car.
Still the best-selling sport-utility on the planet, the Explorer rolls into '98 essentially unchanged from its 1995 redesign, although a number of details have been improved,...
Pros: Safe, nice looking, powerful engine. Cons: Expensive, frequent repairs to vital parts of the car
Momma said that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Sorry, Ford, but I can't follow that adage when talking about my Explorer (God rest his soul).
I bought my 1990 Explorer (XLT, 2wd) used right after I graduated high...
Pros: capability on and off-road as good as it gets...interior styling second to none Cons: none yet

Pros: size, comfort, features Cons: gas milage for the first year
We bought a Chrysler mini-van before this vehicle and we were very un-impressed with it. Tons of problems and it just didn't have the umph that a truck had to offer. The one good thing about it was that it was a front wheel drive vehicle. We decided...
Personally the Ford Explorer in my opinion is very over rated. I didnt like the way it rides. A little rough, and shaky. The premium sound system was not premium at all. The looks are very nice. But if you are looking for a great overall SUV I would...
Pros: roominess, price, comfort Cons: gas consumption
Like the title says, "Once it worked, I loved it".

If so, this is the vehicle for all your adventures. Whether one mile to your destination or 687 miles, it is still the most comfortable ride I have ever had.
Car buying can be such a hassle, but this buying experience was not. My honey and I...
The 2000 Explorer is an excellent car. It is built well, has a lot of power, is safe, and is very comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an SUV. The ford that I own is a SOHC 4.0 v6 XLT four-door. I chose not to get the V8 because...
Pros: Rides smoothly, safely, comfortably... Cons: Uses a lot of gas (all SUVs do)
The Ford Explorer is the perfect size for a family of four or five, leaving room in the back for all of their gear. This SUV is so safe that you could give it to a new driver, without having any worries about how they would handle it. It handles great...
Pros: Plenty of room. Drives like a dream. Cons: Eats gas the way a sailor loves his rum.

Pros: cd player height Cons: tires gas guzzler flimsy plastic

Pros: I love both of my xlt's "92-96" awesome experience Cons: not a one, everything is beautiful"THANK YOU FORD"
Well I would not get a two(2)wheel drive and then complain about that it is not a good offroad vehicle, when in fact, this vehicle is a lot better than you describe it to be,and about your shock issue? just like you said"I bought the v6 because you...
I just bought the new 2000 Ford explorer Sport and I love it. It drives like a dream. It has excelent hydrolics and shocks. I have never had a car that drove this well. And i've had plenty let me tell you. The steering is excelent and always in line....
Pros: Cargo space, comfort, Great visibility,

When I signed a 2 yr lease for a new Explorer I had never had a SUV. I Can't believe I lived so long with out one!
I have 22,000 miles on the Explorer and the my plan is to purchase it at lease end.
Pros: good quality, great reliability Cons: under 20 per gallon
The 93 I currently own is the third explorer I've had. The first was a '94 sport that I bought in 1995, this was a great vehicle that I had no problems with in the 3 years that I owned it. I think the only repair work done in that time was front and rear...

Pros: This is a beautifully designed vehicle. Cons: A minor repair becomes a nightmare.
On June 28, 2000 I took possession of my 2000 Ford Explorer. That summer I was driving a friend's mother to the dentist on a regular basis along with the regular trafficing of children, mine and others! The standard joke was the "little men" dancing on...
Pros: Lots of cargo room. Cons: Doesn't hold up under use.
We bought our explorer used so it has a few bugs I am more than willing to look over. We purchased the suv shortly after I became pregnant knowing we would need more room. I initially wanted it because it has four doors. I thought it would be very ...
Pros: Stylin', I'm running with the big boys and loving it. Cons: It is not equipped for the smoker.
I have always been a car owner until recently. I am a changed person. I am a female and of small stature. My 2000 Explorer is probably the best vehicle I have ever had. It is a V-6, 4WD, and holds to the road well in all kinds of weather conditions....
I bought this SUV because I liked the aesthetics of it and a lot of people I knew had one. Admittedly, I do not take very good care of the car, but I can't stand it. It breaks all the time. The passenger door never opens. The side mirrors are both...
Pros: Looks good, drives well, plenty of room Cons: Gas, gas, gas
It was time to get rid of my '92 Explorer. It lugged around an awful 175K miles, and the computer was going. Not bad for a 10 year old, really! I knew I didn't want a car again, driving an SUV makes me feel safer and more in control while on the road....
Pros: good looking, comfortable. Cons: bouncy ride.
Updated mar 02:
I have a 2000 Explorer sport 4WD, and I love it! This is the only vehicle that is available today that I would want to drive. (there are a few I wouldn't mind having as a second car) The sport is sporty looking, which I love....
This year I traded in my 1993 ford explorer for a 2000 ford explorer. What can I say but that it`s even greater than the 1993. The ride is as smooth as a Caddy and Ford even sent us a free set of portable chairs that are excellent quality just like their...
Pros: The status of SUV driving! Cons: The poor gas mileage and starting problems.
I recently rented a Ford Explorer 4-DR it was somewhat an interesting ride but yet at the same time something was not right. On several occasions the vehicle would not start because it was flooded. Bad design or something. I am a Ford Fan but if it...
Pros: Good for a short girl like me Cons: too bad for my tall husband
My husband and I traded in our 98 F-150 supercab for the 2000 Explorer because it was supposedly more "family friendly" and better on gas mileage. I highly suggest that people investigate before they listen to a car salesperson!!! I test...
Pros: economical/affordable/comfortable Cons: I can't find any
I purchased my 2000 Ford Explorer XLT in January 2000. I LOVE IT. I have never owned a four-wheel drive vehicle before and I know now what I have been missing.
My explorer is small enough for easy handling and large enough to fit all my...
Pros: Sound System Cons: Driving, Accesories, 6 disc CD changer
My best friend just purchased a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT. It is a very nice care to just ride in and fo from point A to point B. But if you are the kind of consumer that likes their car to be perfect in every way with no flaws especially when it is brand...
Pros: nice size-affordable-features-best in crash tests for American SUV's Cons: not as reliable as foreign SUV's
I did my homework when I purchased this kind of SUV. I couldn't afford the price of the Toyota's or Nissan's which has the highest safety records of all SUV's, so I went with the next one on the safety list I could afford. The Ford Explorer fit the bill...
I just bought a 2000 Ford Explorer. I've had Explorers in the past and I have loved them all. The features on the new Explorer are remarkable. You can heated seats or any other option that is usually only available on more expensive cars. I bought...
When we bought this car, we weren't sure at first if we had picked the right car. We didn't think it had enough power with only a 6-cylinder engine. This car is very dependable! If you are considering this car to buy this car, first think about what...
Pros: Awesome looks, ground clearance Cons: Noisy, front end & brake problems, rough ride
I have owned 3 of these pieces of crap. You would have thought I would have learned my lesson on the first 2. First I had a 1991, Not bad but had front end and brake lining problems. Second, I owned a 95, NEVER buy a first year body or suspension change ...
Pros: Comfortable ride Cons: lots of rattles when driving, low mileage yet still high maintenance
I have a 96 Explorer XLT. Recently with only 50K in mileage, the flywheel went on it. One look at the flywheel and it is quite obvious that "QUALITY DOES NOT GO IN BEFORE THE NAME GOES ON", as FORD would like to have one believe as their ad...
Pros: standard options for the money.
Cons: rear window wiper. 4 wheel drive is never completly disengaged with control-trac
I went to the Explorer XLT from an 1989 Ford Probe GT turbo.
Talk about a change of height and power. I decided on the
Explorer XLT after talking to many friends that had Explorers and doing comparisons with other comparable SUV's
...
Pros: 5-Speed, V6, cargo room and dependability. Cons: small electrical problems like back wiper and power locking mechanism on rear door.
I own the XLS 4.0L 5-speed and absolutely love it. I looked around at the other SUV's that came with a manual transmission. They are few and far between. I fell in love with my Explorer at first sight. I have added a sun-roof and Rancho RSX shocks but it remains stock. I currently have 87,000 miles and have only had to replace the ball joints, a $900 expense, but no other major repairs. I take this truck off road and generally beat on it daily. I have not had a vehicle that has ever taken my abuse and not complained like this truck. I have to say that I have found the vehicle that I will forever love and probably own. Because when I hit 200,000 miles or the engine goes, which ever comes first. I will replace the engine, transfer case, lift it and rebuild the axles. I am just so happy with this vehicle that if I wanted to let people know if they are looking for a dependable truck as well as one that is offered with a 5-speed, only til 2002 though. This is the vehicle you need.
Overall, not a bad SUV by terese_adams ,Apr 04 '05
Pros: A very reliable SUV. Cons: Window seal leaked, need to be improved.
Overall, not a bad SUV. I purchased my Explorer with 34,000 miles on it and had it for four years. During that time, the only problems I had was I had to get the auto air intake valve replaced. But other than that, I didn't have any major problems with it at all. Also, the window seal on the drivers side window leaked when it rained. The only reason why I got rid of my truck is because it had about 80,000 miles on it and was no longer under warranty. I live in the Midwest and through all the winters and the salt on the roads, the truck did not rust, it was reliable in sub zero temperatures and the 4x4 is awesome. I'm not sure what options were standard on the 2000 Explorer but mine had a leather interior, moon roof, roof racks, CD player, power window, driver side power seat, power locks, key less entry, etc. Overall, a good purchase for a used SUV.
Small dip in road made vehicle fishtail and flip onto roof. Only going 55 mph. This small incident should not have resulted in a rollover. Very dangerous.
