Best of an SUV and Wagon - Almost - 2000 Subaru Forester

by jps246 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50
Dec 15 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Mostly Maintenance Free, All-Wheel Drive, Good attempt at combining an SUV and wagon
Cons: Not made for anyone over about 6' tall
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line is trying to send power to the wheels that grip from those that slip

Combine an SUV and a car and what do you get? Subaru would hope that you get the Forester, an all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid that straddles the line between car and SUV and in the end, you get one of the best hybrid SUV/wagons available out there ...

Subaru Forester--An SUV with a Serious Identity Problem

by glacier
Jun 20 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Good Acceleration, Suspension, Steering
Cons: Cramped Interior, Touchy Gas, Strange Design
The Bottom Line: This could be right for a single person on the move, not for large families.

It looks like a wagon, has the suspension of an SUV, and drives like a car. Does this make a good combination? Well, it could. But there are some general flaws which have me a bit disenchanted with this vehicle, which I've been driving for the last...

Pros: Good power, Decent standard equipment, AWD
Cons: Subaru is a terrible manufacture, A small list of other items

I bought my 2000 Forester L in November of 1999. At the time, it was the only mini-ute I considered. (My wife already driving a 2000 Outback Limited) I am a car nut, age 15 through college I held every job possible in the Automotive field. I really...

Pros: AWD, retains value, SUV like a car
Cons: cup holder, seats

The fact that we own a Subaru Outback and a Subaru Forester probably indicates that we like Subarus! The 2000 Forester L is the newest of our Subarus.

For a while we considered getting a 4WD SUV, but the low gas mileage was a concern....

Pros: Good compromise between car & truck
Cons: Annoying little problems

In Feb. I bought a 2000 Forester S (cold-weather package) after driving a Ford Explorer Sport for 4 years. After 4 months and 10K miles, I'm quite happy with the purchase. I get a lot of the advantages of an SUV (though less of some) without their worst...

Pros: PRICE!! Handling, Roominess
Cons: ride, mileage

The Forester--a great car, great performance, great price! For under 23 grand, you get a 4 wheel drive, powerful all terrain vehicle with many added benifits. This car drives like a dream, it's much smaller than other SUV's, and you can clearly see...

Pros: Fantastic ABS brakes and all-wheel drive
Cons: Mechanical problems, hesitation, poor heating

I needed a vehicle after my trusty Toyota 2x2 had to be turned in after 175,000 miles for its parts. I wanted another vehicle that was just as dependable and absolutely there whenever I needed it. That's why I test-drove the Subaru Forester. It was...

Cons: lack of leg room in back seat

I bought my Forester when my 9 year old sedan was stretching to reach 20 miles an hour. I knew I wanted a SUV, and I knew I had great luck with the last Subaru I owned (the car I traded in wasn't a Subaru)

Four months later I'm still as...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Peppy acceleration, nice ride and handling
Cons: Uncomfortable rear seats, poor sound system and mushy brakes

I looked at a lot of small SUVs before choosing the Forester. Sure it may not have the sexy looks of some of the other models, but I'm too practical to fall for that. I checked out the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CRV, and the Chevy Tracker. The RAV4 and...
