Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent handling on wet or snowy roads, fairly good fuel efficiency.
Cons: lacks sufficient leg room for taller drivers
The Bottom Line: would recommend, particularly for drivers in rural areas or who must drive difficult terrain

I bought my Forester in October of 2000. I am a winter driving coward who must drive 33 miles into the foothills of the West Virginia mountains to work. I had previously owned a Jeep Cherokee which saw me through most winter situations. Yet, I ...

Cons: Poor Transmission, Cooolant Leaks Constant issues really- Never seems to be enough!
The Bottom Line: Some people seem to love it- I loved it for how it handled in road conditions and but its not worth the headache of the repairs.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: AWD - all wheel drive
Cons: Gas mileage (cuz of AWD) manufacturer quality and design - wheel bearings, clutch, windshield
The Bottom Line: Quality sucks.

1st problem: My dueler bridgestone tires wore extremely quickly. I have replaced them several times with brand name tires, but have resorted to generic ones because of the short life span. I suspect alignment problems after reading some other posts on ...

by jps246 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50
Dec 15 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Mostly Maintenance Free, All-Wheel Drive, Good attempt at combining an SUV and wagon
Cons: Not made for anyone over about 6' tall
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line is trying to send power to the wheels that grip from those that slip

Combine an SUV and a car and what do you get? Subaru would hope that you get the Forester, an all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid that straddles the line between car and SUV and in the end, you get one of the best hybrid SUV/wagons available out there ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: reliable, cargo space, smooth, sticks great during rain & snow
Cons: alarm doesn't work in extreme heat or cold. No side air bag or sunroof option
The Bottom Line: All in one vehicle. Safe, reliable, excellent cargo space, smooth, quiet. Reasonably priced for four wheel drive & 4 disc brakes. Very happy.

We purchased a new 2000 Forester S in March of 2000 and are very happy with it. My wife drives it on her 70 mile (roundtrip) commute and the car has been great. Its a totally solid car. No problems at all. She feels very secure driving it in the rain...

Subaru Forester--An SUV with a Serious Identity Problem

by glacier
Jun 20 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Good Acceleration, Suspension, Steering
Cons: Cramped Interior, Touchy Gas, Strange Design
The Bottom Line: This could be right for a single person on the move, not for large families.

It looks like a wagon, has the suspension of an SUV, and drives like a car. Does this make a good combination? Well, it could. But there are some general flaws which have me a bit disenchanted with this vehicle, which I've been driving for the last...

Pros: power of car and versatility of passenger and cargo area
Cons: frequent mechanical problems associated with the "check engine" light and very poor customer service
The Bottom Line: Because of the extremly poor customer service and the frequent mechanical problems this is not a car I would recommend to anyone

I have owned a 2000 Subaru Forester for a little over one year. Soon after the purchase I experienced the first problem with the "Check engine" light coming on, indicating something was wrong somewhere.. Now after 5 more occurences of the same problem...

Pros: Fantastic ABS brakes and all-wheel drive
Cons: Mechanical problems, hesitation, poor heating

I needed a vehicle after my trusty Toyota 2x2 had to be turned in after 175,000 miles for its parts. I wanted another vehicle that was just as dependable and absolutely there whenever I needed it. That's why I test-drove the Subaru Forester. It was...

Pros: Price and reliability
Cons: Could use a little more luggage room

get with a Forester. It’s simple, a lot of high payments.

For my money, the Forester has everything: comfort, style, reliability at a very reasonable cost to own and operate. The Forester handle nicely on both the open road and in those out...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great handling for an SUV

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, mileage, handling, options available
Cons: Doesn't look as cool as the Xterra and Explorer

I researched/compared and drove a Subaru Forester, Ford Explorer (Eddie Bauer), Mitsubishi Montero and Nissan Xterra. Even though I liked the looks of the others much more than the Forester, it beat them all in terms of mileage, price, and handling....

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Peppy acceleration, nice ride and handling
Cons: Uncomfortable rear seats, poor sound system and mushy brakes

I looked at a lot of small SUVs before choosing the Forester. Sure it may not have the sexy looks of some of the other models, but I'm too practical to fall for that. I checked out the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CRV, and the Chevy Tracker. The RAV4 and...
