Pros: Style, power (2.7T and 4.2), room, comfort, handling (4.2, Sport Package?) Cons: Manual transmission, tippy handling feel (2.7T), power (2.8) The Bottom Line: Though the 4.2 looks and handles the best, the 2.7T with automatic and Sport Package is best overall. Manual fans should be sure to try before they buy.
Within the field of automobile design, Audi is widely regarded as the leader. It is not hard to see why. While the A4 and the new TT get more attention, my personal favorite design is the A6. Over the past few years I have driven all four quattro ...

Pros: Bi-turbo, power, manners, fit-and-finish, materials, layout and controls, interior and exterior, Trunk space Cons: Turbo lag, idle shake, transmission slippage, drive by wire "confusion" could cause a severe accident. The Bottom Line: I would not feel comfortable recommending this vehicle based upon my experiences with it. Bought a BMW 5 Series instead and it's a night and day experience/comparison.
It's truly a great thing to lose the car you previously owned because it was a junker. Well mine wasn't a "junker" but it was 5 years old with high miles. It was also a stripped down model, so the only thing that had the word "power" in it on the ...

Pros: Handling, Acceleration, Style, Total Roadability. Cons: The 2001 model as a little too much wind noise The Bottom Line: My prediction? The A6 2.7T will eventually be recognized as the best all-around sport sedan on the planet.
After 25000 miles, I still love my Audi A6 2.7T Quattro with Tiptronic shift and Sports suspension.
I have had no mechanical problems and I would highly recommend this car to anyone who wants the real deal in a roomy sports sedan. I'm 6-4, and...

Pros: Style, safety and stability Cons: Seats lack support, radio is subpar, no choice of wheel styles for 2.8 model The Bottom Line: This car has the world's best all-wheel drive system and it is one of the most stylish cars on the road at any price.
I purchased a 2001 Audi A6 2.8 on September 1, 2000. Nearly 12 months later, I still love this car. The car developed a very slight transmission leak a few weeks after I took delivery - not very impressive for a car that has what is supposed to be a...

Pros: Smooth ride with beautifully appointed amenities. Cons: Horrible service. Mind as well buy it from a sleazy used car dealer. The Bottom Line: Great car, but horrible service killed it for me. Car of this level deserves service of same calibre.
I purchased my 4.2 with much delight. This was my first German automobile. Being that I used to go skiing up in the mountains a lot back then, I wanted something with AWD. In the end, the choice between BMW 54x and A6 4.2 came down to AWD. Styling: ...

Pros: Interior, ride, overall build quality Cons: Expensive parts and service, resale not quite as good as other german vehicles The Bottom Line: Excellent car for the price if bought used.
I've owned my 2001 A6 for 6 months now. My previous vehicles were 2 Porsches and a twin turbo Nissan Z. This is definitely a different car than those. The absolute best thing Audi has going for it on this car in the interior. You'd have a hard time ...

Pros: blindingly fast, very comfortable, quattro is extremely reliable, excellent handling, Quality is above the rest Cons: i don't have another one :( The Bottom Line: i would DEFINITELY recommend this car to anyone who is considering buying this fine machine.
Before having this car, i was stuck with two american "cars" that just loved to not work. A 1993 Ford Explorer sport, and a 1996 oldsmobile cutlass supreme. the explorer loved gulping that gas as well. so i gave up on them both and desperately searched ...

Pros: Performance, Handling, Sound System, Styling, Fit & Trim. Cons: Wind Noise, constant warm air coming from floor vent, The Bottom Line: Nearly impossible to beat the dollar vs the FUN TO DRIVE value this car offers.
After 11,000 miles of road having passed under my A6 2.7T Quattro, I can honestly say that I'm even more impressed with this car today than I was when I first reviewed it after only 700 miles.
I have recently had my Audi "Chiped" with the...

Pros: Smooth, quiet ride; excellent routine handling Cons: Automatic transmission performance The Bottom Line: Consider a Passat with a 5-speed manual.
Vehicle is a 2001 A6, non-turbo with ZF5HP19FLA transmission. Overall it is very quiet and routine handling is very precise. Engine is smooth and has adequate power. But the transmission performance is nothing less than bizarre. The transmission has a...

Pros: power on the highway. Label queens love it. Cons: Not enought space. The emperors new clothes im afraid. The Bottom Line: Dont buy this unless you are a complete label queen or european in size.
i drive my friends Audi a6 often and am often bewildered by what people will buy because of a label. Ask anyone about a hot car and Audi will surely top the list. LISTEN, if you have alot of money to spend on repairs buy one. Otherwise buy a HONDA. ...

2001 A6 Avant at 66K Miles
by jfreemanpilot

Recommended: Yes
Pros: Great interior, smooth ride, AWD, good reliability, floor pan keeps the engine bay clean. Cons: Aluminum shift cover scratches easily, 10K seems too long between oil changes.
Purchased in Nov of 2002 with 20K miles. I took advantage of the depreciation curve- I paid $28K (new price of $41K) and received the benefit of the remaining warranty (all services covered to 50K miles). We've had the car for 30 months, added 46K miles, and I can still say it's the quietest, smoothest driving vehicle I have ever owned. We kayak, so the low height makes placement and removal of two full size boats a breeze. The AWD Quattro is great for Minnesota, and our dealer (Carousel Audi) has been great to work with. As an avowed non-SUV person, I find the wagon offers more than enough space for us, and the mileage is much better than a "Look Honey, it's another Explorer/Jeep/Tahoe upside down in the ditch". (For the record, my mileage is 19 City/23 Highway) One thing- Audi says 10K between oil changes. I can't handle that, so I've been going 5K. Also, Audi says the trans fluid is lifetime. Again, I can't handle that, so I had it changed at 40K for my own peace of mind.

A6 Bi-Turbo, a Joy

Pros: Power, features and comfort Cons: A new key costs $200 from the dealer
I have had this car for several months now and must say that each time I drive it, my appreciation grows. In fact I have found myself leaving the very capable 250 watt stereo off for the purpose of hearing the crisp and distinctive turbos kick in and pull me to the back of my very comfortable seat. The features wow me and the craftsmanship is second to none. Stepping down from an Acura, I must confess that the Germans are on to something special.

Pros: Comfy, Great Styling, Turbos, Rides superb, QUATTRO! Cons: seats could be better, needs to get more mpg, minor cons
I have had my Audi a6 2.7t quattro since august of of 06. I am the second owner. It had 39000 when i got it. I have 43,500 miles on it now. I am well below the driving average and i take car of it. I have changed the spark plugs, air filter, and oil.
It is a really nice car. I get alot of compliments on it. It has all the amenities I need. Quiet, comfortable, but the seats need more adjustments to them. The 5 series bmw seats are so coushy but supportive. All in all a great vehicle i am proud to own. Needs to get better in town gas mileage but that is minor
