2001 Plymouth Neon-A Reliable Car

by godsrainbow

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas mileage, reliability, torque
Cons: Loses its value quickly, doesn't come stocked with many options
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a good reliable car that is good on gas then you need to think about a Plymouth Neon.

I bought my 2001 Plymouth Neon in August of 2001. It was a great car while I had it but I sold it because I bought a Honda and I didn't need both cars. My neon was a 4-door beige sedan. When I first got it I was a little disappointed because it didn't ...

Pros: a lot of car for the money
Cons: breakdown, customer service
The Bottom Line: I rated the car average, because overall I am pleased with the car itself. As for the customer service issues, I will update the review when I hear from Chrysler.

I purchased my Neon in August of 2001. Now that I have driven it for a year, I feel I am now able to form a good opinion.
When I first test drove the car, I was very pleased with its comfy seats, spacious interior and pep. For a 4 cylinder, this...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: small outside, big inside
Cons: haven't had any problems with it yet.
The Bottom Line: It will take a lot of money to get me to give up my Neon.

A couple months ago I bought my 2001 Neon. I really love it. The design is almost european, very fancy. The seat are almost too comfortable. Mine is a standard, a very easy to drive standard. The car seems to grip right to the road and handle with...

Great

Pros: Mileage Roomy Stylish Size Peppiness Overall GREAT
Cons: no power windows or door locks, no light switch, no trunk lever etc.
Recently purchasing this vehicle, I am very pleased. It's roomy (im 6'2), stylish, effecient, and very peppy. It's got a 2.0 engine with surprising power, and I have had nothing but good running from it. I have an automatic, and trust me, if you get this car fairly new, maintain it well with regular oil changes like you should, as that will make this car run great far far into the future. Enjoy.

Pros: cheap, dependable if maintanied properly
Cons: horrible car in winter weather, does not fare well in snow.
I purchased my neon new august 2001, $13,675 out the door. since i have put on over 50,000 miles. I have not had 1 mechanical or electrical failure with this car yet. Not 1 problem. I have changed the oil religiously every 3000-4000 miles, the only minor problems i have had, have all been my fault, at about 12,000 i locked my keys in my car, and the cops broke both the locks trying to jimmy the doors ( repair $212 ). at 35,000 i ran over a nail and blew out a tire ( repair $29 ). just the other day at about 51,000 i left my lights on at work in the morning and my battery died ( repair $36 ). other than that, the car is in great working condition and it drives just like the day i brought it off the lot. pending the next 50,000 miles, i will definetly buy another daimler-chrylser product. the only gripe i have is that neons are not good for snow or ice.

Handling and Power that rivals much more expensive cars

Pros: Handling, Power, Interior Room, Ride, Fun to Drive
Cons: 3 speed automatic sometimes hunts for the right gear
I bought my Plymouth Neon new in 2001. It combined all the features I was looking for and for thousands less than comparable cars. Needing a new car on a rather tight budget, I compared all my options and decided the Neon was the best alternative. What happened later came as a GREAT surprise. The more I drove the car, the more fun I had. This car corners like its on rails, and when you have ample passing gear at 75 MPH what more can I say. I drive every year from Cleveland, OH to Myrtle Beach, SC (via mountains) and always have a blast at showing others on the road how well it takes off. Overall, a great buy, economical, roomy and best of all, rewarding to drive.
