While searching for a new truck, I was convinced that prices have reached ridiculous levels and there was no way a truck could be worth the sticker price. That all changed when I first test drove a 2002 GMC extended cab. It was smooth like a car and very responsive. I was very impressed with the power. The truck I purchased had the standard 4.8 liter V8 with 270 horsepower. And for anyone interested in replacing certain components for performance reasons, I urge you to buy a K&N filter and upgrade the exhaust. The Vortech engine responds dramatically to these upgrades as it allows the engine to 'breathe' much better. There are several configurations using various engines, suspension upgrades, 2 or 4 wheel drives, but don't waste your time looking for a 5 speed because they don't exist. This was one configuration I was not impressed with. I found that any GMC extended cab was not available with a manual transmission. However, the resale value will remain higher and the automatic is in fact a great transmission. Overall, I am extremely satisfied and would buy another one without hesitation.
