Pros: Full Frame, Auto locking hubs, old fashioned 4wd, comes with lots of features Cons: Needs more AC capacity, cruise needs to be on steering wheel The Bottom Line: Go for it...this is a good vehicle from an smaller Asian company. You won't go wrong here. It turns on a dime and gives nine cents worth of change.
This is a great little SUV, the twin to the CHevy Tracker yet with more std equipment. It is indeed truck based so if you are looking for a cushy buick like ride, look elsewhere. I achieve around 25 MPG in all around driving. The radio is nice and puts ...

So Far So Good...Just a few speed bumps!!!

Pros: Decent mileage for a SUV. I get anywhere from 25-30 MPG. Cons: Very small compared to the newer and larger SUVs. Only seats 5 people.
I haven't had too many problems, but it definitely is not the best car I have ever bought. I have not had to do much besides basic maintenance since I bought it. I have had to have the automatic locks replaced once but it was under warranty (it broke around 36,000 miles). Also, the transmission seems to be acting up at around 65,000 miles but nothing serious.

Good All around baby SUV

Pros: Good ground clearance, good mileage, bullet proof engine Cons: Seating a little cheesy, hard parts not easy to locate
Bought the Vitara new, now has 112,000 on the clock. I have had a few minor annoyances but nothing to burn the car to the ground about. The engine is a buzzer but does the job. The 5 speed tranny has worked like a champ and the vehicle handles well, like a baby SUV. I have been averaging 28-30mpg on the road. I drive 166 miles a day and the Vitara doesn't complain. A little more ooomph in the engine department would be nice so that the climb up the hills is less of a stress.

Pros: price Cons: Very short warranty, heating system
I have had my vitara for 26 months. I like most things about it. Gas mileage is around 21 now, auto locking hubs are wonderful! It's a comfortable ride for an SUV. Storage is nice. The 2 complaints I have are with the heating system. When it is cold, all my windows fog and the frost up. It makes driving very unsafe. The defrost does not take care of the problem. Also the heat is on the cool side. Maybe a piece of cardboard would help, but I don't think I should ave to do that on a 2 year old vehicle.

My Cute Little Baby SUV

Pros: Cuddly, 4x4 Cons: She chugs up the hill sometimes
This is my first vehicle that is close to new. My previous vehicle was a '95 Ford T-Bird and while that had the pick-up that the Vitara did not it was also a beast that liked to get out of control. My cute little Vitara is great for driving around town, fairly small, but big enough to fit four (although I wouldn't say the back seat size is ideal). I love that the back seat folds down and it is easy to hall things. Gas performance isn't as good as I thought it would be but it is still acceptable. Runs well on the interstate--and I do not find the cruise control to be all that annoying although on the wheel is better. I love having a rear wiper and a lot of standard features that may be optional on the Tracker or Sportage (both of which I test drove). I would say that if you are a single woman looking for a safe (much safer than the Sportage) 4x4 equipped (for bad weather), cute car this is a good choice.

Pros: Economical SUV Cons: Vibrates at hi speed
I have a 1999 Vitara Whenever I get up to highway speeds then slow down a bit I get this " clicking " sound from somewhere underneath. I'm gonna get the transmission checked out.
