Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Built By Hand, 2003 Enhancements, Handling, Acceleration
Cons: Limited Storage Space, No Rear Sound Stage, Expensive Maintenance
The Bottom Line: Excellent Performer, Particularly In Handling. For What I Was Looking To Spend, The Best Option Out There. Highly Recommend A 2003 Or Newer.

I've been driving a 1997 Infiniti J30 for the last six years and decided that it was finally time to get into something that would spell out to the general population that I'm still a single guy, which the four door sedan just wasn't providing. As nice ...

Pros: Handling, build quality, performance.
Cons: Price, value.
The Bottom Line: Porsche emphasizes certain priorities: Handling, luxury, styling, quality. It does not emphasize value or broad appeal. If your values match, you may be happy.

2004 Porsche Boxster (Base)

Pros: Quality, Warranty, Performance, Handling, Ease of top operation. Porsche! There is no substitute!
Cons: Cost of maintenance and service. You need to live in a major U.S. City.
I purchased this car new in June 2004 at Pioneer Porsche in San Diego, California. My trade in was a used 1998 Boxster with 53,000 miles, so it was out of warranty. I had only owned the 1998 for 6 months but had several maintenance issues which had been a hassle including the electric windows which wouldn't work properly. The new Boxster has been trouble free and a sheer joy to drive. I love the handling of this vehicle, it is so nimble and quick. It is solid and tight with no cowl shake, or rattles, like I have experienced in domestic convertibles. The convertible top opening and closing is sheer simplicity and is all automatic from the drivers seat. The craftsmanship and quality are world class as you would expect from Porsche even though it was an "entry level" model at $47,000, but hey, Pioneer Porsche allowed me $20,000 on my '98, so that took a lot of the sting out of the purchase.
