Pros: Power, engine note, ride-handling balance, front seats, refinement Cons: Guzzler, weight harms agility, would like more steering feel and shorter shift throws, rear seat
The things I do for my readers. Someone recently emailed me asking for advice on whether to buy the BMW M3 or Audi S4. Not wanting to get tempted into blowing my savings, I hadnt driven either, so could not say. At any rate, the M3 is no longer ...

Pros: Audi quality, great performance Cons: Weight, price, running costs
The previous generation S4 was an excellent car and a huge commercial success in certain countries, stealth looks, top quality, adequate performance. I own one, and decided not to upgrade to the new model V8. Here is why. Esthetics: the new A4/S4 desig ...

Pros: Performance and handling
Luxurious interior
Price (yes, price-see comments in review) Cons: Generic A4 body
Huge satellite antenna
First of all, I would like to thank all of you who actually drove/bought the S4 and posted your reviews. They helped me make sound decision on my purchase. I have never considered an Audi until the latest A4 styling caught my eyes. Yet with pricing ...

Pros: Handling, looks, comfort, power Cons: Gas mileage
There is absolutely no comparison to the earlier S4. I have driven 2001 and 2002 S4s and I now own a 2004 model. It looks, drives, feels and even sounds better. Listening to the roar of the 340 HP V8 engine is almost as much fun as dropping down a ...

Pros: Stiff, V-8 snarl, seats , shifter Cons: WEIGHT!!!, nose heavy, mileage, brakes mediocre, weak stereo even with upgrade
Well, I recently bought a 2004 s4 with its potent v-8. I own a 2000 bi-turbo s4, which I am now selling. I do have a little bit of buyer remorse to be honest First of all the new car feels slightly faster, but also heavier. The servotronic steering ...

A muscle car for adults
by lenns_dt3000 ,Dec 09 '03
Pros: 344 horsepower, 0.9g skidpad, Audi quality build Cons: thirsty for hi test, dinky cup holders
Major sports car reviewers, whose lives revolve around performance cars, have rated the 2004 Audi S4 above the BMW M3 and the Mercedes C32. The main reason is that the S4 is a better all-around enthusiast car. It's acceleration and handling are superb, and it's lines are classic and classy.
With the racing-inspired steering wheel-mounted Tiptronic 6-speed paddle shifters, you command a power plant that will put any "situation" in your rear view mirror in short order. This car is a joy to drive.

The Best of the Best
by mccarthyd003 ,Feb 18 '04
Pros: 344bhp, Nappa silk recaro seats, Quattro awd, classy interior. Cons: Speed traps and other cars in the fast lane......
What to say about this exotic "sleeper"....... The new S4 has to be the most comfortable and classy way to 60mph in 5 seconds on the planet. The nappa silk leather recaros wrap around you and the 6 speed manual beckons to be put through the paces.(governed at 160mph)
We looked at the M3 and after deciding we did not need to worship at the temple of BMW, we talked to the local Audi dealer. What a difference! The S4 had so much more comfort to offer, including more power in the 4.2L V-8 344 hp powerplant that Audi somehow managed to fit under the hood. The acceleration and handling is truly out of this world. The other drivers on the road will only admire this beauty from the rear view because that is the one angle they will ever see. Even in water and slick road conditions the quattro all wheel drive has the grip of a snow leopard stalking it's prey. Move over BMW, Audi truly is the ultimate driving machine!

an adult "muscle car"
by bondmavn ,Jan 02 '06
Pros: 344hp., excellent handling (0.9g skidpad), Audi quality build Cons: liberal drinker of hi-test, dinky cup-holders
This is an all-around well-balanced car that most major reviewers, whose job it is to know, have placed ahead of the BMW M3 and the Mercedes C32. I have the racing-inspired steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifting 6-speed Tiptronic
(macho heresy!). This car will leave most annoyances eating your smoke and will provide slingshot-like passes.
It is a great all around car that is a joy to drive
