Top of the line Full size SUV

by jenni796 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 14 '04
Pros: Unlimited options, seats 9 COMFORTABLY, Smooth & Quiet ride, Easy to park. *see update*
Cons: Gas mileage. Onstar, phone, XM subscriptions get expensive but worth it during an emergency.
What's so impressive about this SUV? EVERYTHING! It was finally time to trade my 99 Durango. I was a little reluctant to move up to a 'full size' SUV until I drove the 2004 Tahoe. My main priorities with any vehicle are safety, sharp turning radius ...

Possibly My Next Vehicle

by pichu210 , Nov 01 '04
Pros: onstar, retractable mirrors
Cons: gas mileage
I recently started shopping for a new vehicle and one of the most impressive I have driven so far is the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. This has to be one of the quietest SUV's on the road today. It is almost soundproof. There really is virtually no road ...

A Pulling Machine :)

by thekubiaks , Jul 29 '04
Pros: Towing capabilities, ride, leather quality, electronics.
Cons: GAS HOG
I was looking for a good pulling vehicle for a heavy boat (4500#) I narrowed down my selection to the Toyota Sequoia and the Tahoe. I usually will pay extra for the usually superior workmanship and durability of the foreign vehicles but I figured I ...

Love My Tahoe---Just Bought it 11/1/04--Got Rear Ended

by master_v2k , Nov 04 '04
Pros: Teched out, XM,Onstar,DVD, very comfortable
Cons: None yet, gas probably wont be as good, but common people, its a V8.
WOW!!! is all I have to say about this vehicle. I just drove off the lot and got rear ended on the CA N 605 FWY in the fast lane--if anyone spots the hit N run teenage driver, he was in a Gray Dodge Neon license plate # 4AMT... I dont know the rest, but ...

Rock Solid reliability.
by kyle23669 ,Nov 10 '03
Pros: Reliability, comfort.
Cons: Gas usage and squeak in rear windshield wiper.
My business partner bought a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. We are always on the road making deliverys. I know how some people claim SUV's are bad but the Tahoe is an exception. Together we manage a small freight business and we needed a highway vehicle that could haul things during the rain. This Tahoe also doubles as a family vehicle for his family. As you can see, vehicles used by this business build up milage quick and usually have a short life span. This Tahoe already has 117,000 miles on it. YES, truly it does. One of us is pretty much always driving it. It has developed a squeak when the rear windshield wiper is turned on but that's nothing the sound system can't blast out. When I drive it alone, I am usually rough on it since it is not my car. This helps prove it has been extremely reliable. It has not had a single other problem though. The next business car will be a Tahoe.

Very Happy. Wife Loves it
by tvc2000 ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: Smooth quiet ride, Very comfortable, 3rd row seat is great, Very nice ride
Cons: DVD screen obstructs view out of rear view mirror, gas mileage
We wanted another larger SUV for our growing family whereas the Accord and the Jimmy was not doing the job anymore. Test drove the Tahoe and found that it was a very smooth and comfortable ride. Kids are far enough apart where they don't fight as much or touch each other. They already need their space. The Onstar and all extra gadgets and gizmos make this a nice car. 2 separate remotes allow each owner to set seat memory to return back to whichever remote activates the locks. Tilting side mirrors when in reverse is a huge plus for a vehicle of this size.
The ONLY draw back we have fond so far is when the DVD screen is in use (in the down position) it blocks about 80-90% of the rear view mirror. Requires the use of the side mirrors more. Hard to adjust to.

Love it!
by way2nutz ,Oct 23 '06
Pros: Agility, comfort, fit and finish. And MPG!!
Cons: Roof rack too close to the top of the truck, hard to wash.
The maneuverability of this SUV is unbelievable, the turning radius is unmatched!

I've read a number of reviews with the biggest 'con' being gas mileage. Ours has every option except navigation, and we consistently get 15.6 in city driving, and 20.7 freeway driving.....this isnt 'up to' figures but actual averages. I have a number of freinds with asian import SUV's with 6cyl engines that get considerably worse mileage, and have no where near the towing capacity or comfort. Granted I opted for the 3:43 rear axle as opposed to the 3:73 which would have hurt the mileage a bit.

Fit and finish are great, ride is awesome and resale prices still seem to be pretty darn good considering the rumors of horrible gas mileage.

by star128 ,Feb 04 '04
Pros: powerful engine;roomy interior
Cons: better gas mileage would be nice
This truck is awesome. Fun to drive. I just make up an excuse to go to the store just so I can drive my tahoe. The power, size, and the Z71 package are great. Our 96 explorer sport was getting too small for our family (me, my husand, and two growing kids) The tahoe is the perfect vehicle for all of us.

Best all around vehicle in America
by dadndaf ,Feb 02 '05
Pros: Rock solid, comfort, Z71 off-road capable, dependable, does it all
Cons: Price, needs a little more ground clearance for off road
On the road, it is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever driven in it's class. I get 16-18 mpg at 75 and 80 mph. We drive in lots of snow and off-road areas and it is rock solid. The Z71 package takes us all over Utah where only jeeps are supposed to go and with more comfort. We have driven Tahoes and Suburbans in ranching for 13 years and they cannot be destroyed. Some are still be used as taxi service for Telluride ski area with over 150,000 miles on them. The turning radius is great and gets us in and around boulders, trees, creeks, etc. in the wilds of Utah and Colorado. The stereo is fantastic, the quiet ride superb, the comfort outstanding, and we feel extremely safe doing anything and everything. Expensive, yes, and it's hard to take a $46,000 vehicle into the wilds, but that's what they're for and they do a wonderful job. Why have it if you aren't going to use it like it was meant to be used!

Terrific Tahoe
by realestatelady ,Jan 02 '04
Pros: Lots of Room, safe, stylish
Cons: gas mileage isn't the greatest, but the safety factor outweighs the gas, in my opinion.
I have had a Tahoe and a Suburban since 1997. Both have impressed me. I drive the 2004 Tahoe for my job, and I enjoy the safety factor, style, features and room. I carry clients all over town, with their families, and the Tahoe is always dependable.

2004 Z 71 Tahoe
by crooksight ,Nov 26 '03
Pros: like a kid, with his first bike @ 58 :-)rides like a caddy*
Cons: the 60-40 second row seating, seatbacks are straight up(non adjustable)
was a big fan of the 4 runner until the steering locked up and took out 300ft. of guardrail on I 81 in Va.three years ago. i then bought a used 96 2 dr. tahoe LT,because of the need to have more sheet metal around the family. that was a big step up in ride and over all comfort ,not to mention power. was seriously considering a new 4 runner sport V-8. drove two differant models.toyota has improved greatly on the 4 runner, however, after driving the Z 71 package Tahoe for 2004,i was blown away.NO comparison ! also for the hunter, who actualy goes off road,or pulls husky loads, well it just plain spoils you.after owning three jeeps, and one 4 runner, there is no looking back.with the new bumper to bumper extended warrenty protection to 100,000 miles after the 36,000 mile one expires, with $100. deductible for anything that goes wrong-that is alot of peace of mind *
