2004 Kia Rio- Is a 100% improvement enough?

by shoplmart shoplmart is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Jan 09 '04
Pros: Improved power, Warranty, Price.
Cons: Noisy, Power steering is still not standard, Acceleration still needs to be improved.
Since its introduction back in '00 the Kia Rio has always been on my cars-to-avoid list and for good reason. The Rio Sedan may have boasted the cheapest base price tag on the market when it made its debut, however the Rio's small price tag came with ...

Better Than Expected, But Still Difficult To Recommend...

by drive571 drive571 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Mar 20 '04
Pros: Cheapest new car on the market, surprisingly decent steering and handling.
Cons: Weak, unrefined engine, rubbery shifter, cramped interior, noisy ride, flimsy and flexy overall feel.
My Experience I test-drove a Kia Rio 5-speed sedan at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about forty-five minutes and covered city streets, the freeway, and some winding back roads. Performance The Rio's engine is ...

Kia Rio, or "The Little Engine still can't"

by jenb123 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 02 '05
Pros: My sunglasses and Biggie Diet Coke are safe
Cons: no power, can't handle a pothole
My husband purchased the 2004 Kia Rio as a quick replacement for our Suzuki Esteem, which was rear-ended, and declared a total loss by the at-fault driver’s insurance company. He chose the car based on price, availability and a cash-back offer. If we ...

Short people with shallow pockets, meet your car.

by gfxminc , Nov 23 '04
Pros: Price, surprising power, sharp steering, ample trunk.
Cons: Disjointed driver feel, Loud engine, Tiny interior.
The Story : I rented a 2004 Kia Rio and got the chance to know the car for about a day and a half. Covered mostly residential roads, with a few highway routes and the occasional maze around hilly areas. Power Well, as much as my ...

From the mouth of a living "crash test dummy"

by Taishan , Aug 08 '06
Pros: Mileage, price and it also looks “cute”...
Cons: Made of tinfoil... possibly explains the cheap price.
Just call me “Buster” (from the Mythbusters that is) I had my Rio for just over a year, almost a year and a half before it met its demise… with me still in it! Not only can I tell you about features of the car, but you’ll also get a first-hand ...

1 out of every 2 are junk

by tramp116 , Nov 14 '08
Pros: Good CD player. Peppy engine (when it ran). Great target for shopping cart Demo derby.
Cons: Where do I even begin? Everything except the cd player
I bought a Cinco new in Sept. 2004. I  should have suspected something when 2 days after purchase, the sunglasses holder literally fell apart in my hand. 2 months later they cut the price in half to sell that year's model. I was shortly to be shown ...

KIA RIO Sedan is plain awesome!

by mankytiger , Nov 10 '08
Pros: Looks, dependable, functionality, cost of maintenance, ease of maintenance, great design.
Cons: Automotive bigots do not like it. Their loss, my gain.
I purchased my 2004 Kia Rio used from a used auto lot for $5,000 USD. I've built and had 67/68 Ford Mustangs and even a 74 Midget, so I feel fairly competant about the machinations of cars. Upon inspection I was surprised how well put together the car ...

Good First Car, Great Gas Mileage, Small Electrical Probs

by pj_paws , Jun 14 '07
Pros: Gas mileage, roomy, stereo, power locks & windows that come standard
Cons: Poor paint quality, electrical issues
After driving my parents Chevy Impala for a few years, this was my first car. Initially, I was in love with it - despite Kia's reputation it really was a better car than the price would suggest. No, it is not a power machine or anything for a real auto ...

I decided to buy a new car for the first time in my life ( I am almost 54 ) and only wanted to spend so much for it. My pick was a Kia Rio. I did a little scoping out at about 5 dealers one afternoon with a friend. We went to the Ford and Toyota ...

Such a better option than purchasing used

by chillycanuck , Apr 01 '06
Pros: - Inexpensive to purchase - Inexpensive to maintain - Good gas mileage
Cons: - Doesn't earn respect (if this is how you get it)
I read one review on here that mentioned purchasing a new car for that "new car smell". What motivated me to purchase new for the first time in '04 was the realization that people really don't maintain things, they just replace them. I had a bad ...

Ford Focus gone, so they gave me a rio.
by maymi ,May 18 '04
Pros: Headroom Fuel Efficiency Made in Korea with Hyundai Accent Chassis so you know its reliable.
Cons: Acceleration back seat room. need heavy foot
I got into a accident in my 1999 Hyundai Tiburon so the dealer said it wwould take about 2 to 3 weeks. I went to Enterprise rental car company and they gave me a brand new ford focus. The Focus was jerking while iw as accelerating so i said .. "No way , not in this hellish driving conditions". So they gave me a Rio instead and I just love it.

Its been 2 weeks and my car is still in the shop. The 2004 Rio is great in the city,.. awesome gas mileage. What really surpised me is that it was so quiet. You'll need a heavy foot to get up to speed but when you reach 70 MPH, everything is ok. The automatic transmission gets confused sometimes, but its very minor. I've driven from Virginia to Michigan and the car drove comfortably. The CD player does well playing songs with alot of bass, but it has a hard tiem playing treble. The little rio has alot of head room, the is a plus for me because I have a big head.

overall, this car is fun to drive, fuel efficient and reliable. ICE Cold A/C too!

2004 Kia Rio Sedan - Loaded
by psalms2711 ,Aug 11 '04
Pros: Price, Nice Styling, Dealer Friendliness, Comfort!!!
Cons: Low fuel economy (25 City, 28-30 Highway), Expected better??
I have never in my 26 years of driving, and my 70+ cars (I'm a classic car nut), have I been able to trade in an old, worn out Chevy Astro van + $5000.00 to buy a fully loaded NEW car that is totally useful and pleasurable to operate. My 2004 Kia Rio sedan has power EVERYTHING, Automatic transmission, and per very careful internet study, the AM-FM, CD stereo is made by Alpine and the speakers in the car can take loud volume without distortion. I have filled the car with 7 people, a full trunk of groceries & shopping, and still can exceed the speed limit of 75 MPH on the freeway. Don't worry; I still have a spare Chevy Astro passenger van for my family of 7. I recommend the Kia Rio for anyone that is smart enough to see the value of this refined automobile.
