Pros: Slick and refined interior, eager and agile demeanor, better dynamically than tall-bodied xB. Cons: Tight, cramped-feeling interior, near-nonexistent trunk space, feels out of its element on freeways.
My Experience I test-drove a Scion xA five-speed at a local dealership. My test drive lasted about half and hour and covered city streets, winding secondary roads, and the freeway. Performance As in the xB, I originally wasn't ...
Pros: Outstanding fuel efficiency, inexpensive, fully equipped (options get pricy though) Cons: Noisy at highway speeds, no discounts or rebates
Two weeks ago I bought a new car, a 2003 Mazda Protege, but before I did, I test-drove most of the competition, did a lot of online and print research, and finally did a whole lot of soul searching to figure out just what the best car for me would be for ...
Pros: gas mileage, pricing, interior styling, hatchback practicality Cons: front end styling, rear seat space, dealers won't deal on price
Here in California, we were blessed to be the preview state for Toyota's new youth-oriented brand - Scion. Designed to appeal to Gen Y and to break free from Toyota's stodgy image, the Scion nameplate is composed of 3 models - the xA, xB and the ...
Pros: Price, large number of standard features, interior space, no haggle pricing Cons: low-end power, no choice of interior color, cargo floor has lip at edge
Test drove a Scion xA this week, after doing research on the web. The model I drove was equipped with the following options: an automatic transmission, floor/cargo area mats, and a 6 CD changer. Price as tested was $14,280. (Scions are sold with "no ...
Pros: Low price, tight cornering, abs brakes and power windows and locks standard. Cons: Price is already low so dealer won't come down any on it.
The Scion XA is a great little car. I've driven a mini-van for the past thirteen years so I'd forgotten how fun a small car could be to drive. Though my van is luxurious and wonderful for traveling, it has become quite expensive to drive around town with ...
Pros: standard features, gas mileage, visibility, Toyota quality, head-turner, fun to drive, affordable, roomy. Cons: Engine power, interior mostly plastic, not much cargo room.
I'm a 23 year old pharmacy tech that used to drive a more sensible and luxurious Toyota Avalon XLS. My former car was fully loaded and originally had a sticker price of $32,000. Got me from one place to another in comfort..... only drawback..... IT ...
Pros: Inexpensive, reliable, cute design, fuel efficient. Cons: Smallish trunk and limited rear seat room for three.
After 3 months of ownership I'm sold on Toyota's "youth" market vehicle. We decided to trade in our Ford Expedition for a more fuel effecient vehicle and the Scion was our first choice for several reasons. The value to price ratio was great. Toyota ...
Well, I'd like to believe I am an informed buyer: Consumer Reports, Autobytel, Edmunds, Intellichoice, etc., I review all of them before buying a new vehicle. My choices came down to the Ford Focus ZX-3, the MINI, the VW Golf TDI and the Scion x-A. I ...
Pros: Ultra cool interior/exterior styling; price; mpg; audio; character; smiles Cons: Not too much room in back; plastic interior; sun visors
The Scion xA has ultra cool design. I mean just look at any other new car you can get for $13000--yawn. The xA has charm and style. If I were driving a Kia Rio or Hyundai Accent I for sure wouldn't get stares and comments like "What is that thing? It's ...
Pros: great value, easy clutch, quick, good on gas. Cons: None yet with 5000 miles on the car
I have owned over twenty cars in the past 18 years. I've owned two corvettes (2001 Z06, 92 convertible), a 94 Cobra, a 67 GTO, 4 Toyota pickups, Jettas, Mazdas.... I purchased cars because I got bored with what I owned. In recent years I have found that ...
A Toyota Echo in Disguise. by aquariusblue ,Apr 02 '04
Pros: Great value, power everything, ABS, supposedly gets good gas mileage. Cons: Crash tests unknown, small for some, back seats only for kids, noisy
The Scion X-a is based on the subcompact Toyota Echo. Toyota made a third brand to try and catch some youth loyalty. This car is only available in California, but later this year, it will make it national Toyota dealers.
I test drove a automatic X-a earlier this year, here are my obsevations:
The car looks only slightly bigger than a Geo Metro. A 4 door hatchback, it remindes me of a Mini Cooper.
Engine is a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder, same a the Echo.
It is a good car, a bit noisy, especially at higher speeds. The back seat is only good for children. The front seats are excellent. Acceleration is good, but you can't expect a sports car with the tiny engine.
Safety crash tests are unknown(as of 3-4-04). It has dual front air bags and ABS standard. Side air bags are an extra cost.
Gas mileage is supposed to be good at 32-38 miles.
Comes with power locks and windows, ABS brakes, and with a great Pioneer CD sound system.
This car is a great deal at $13,750, because it comes with so much stuff, it would be a great around town type car.
Scion xA, 2004 a year later by shirleytowers ,Jul 31 '05
Pros: price, handling, gas mileage, sporty looks, sound system Cons: small, maybe a little underpowered if you need a burst of speed getting on highway
I bought my little Scion xA in June 2004. I loved it then and I love it now. Drives nice, gets about 28 mpg. And it is so dang cute. Every time I see it sitting in my driveway I get a warm and fuzzy feeling. I like the sound system, too.
Now, I don't like attention too much, but I must say that people often comment on my little car or ask me about it. I get looks, and they aren't looking at ME. One guy even started talking to me in traffic, yelling out his car window.
And the car was so cheap. Gosh, I love a bargain. It is a little bit smallish, and I wouldn't complain if it had a little more oomph as I enter into highway traffic, but all in all I am very happy with my purchase.
Lots of car for little cash by shabba2 ,Jul 16 '04
Pros: -Great Gas mileage
-Fun to Drive
-Peppier than expected! Cons: -Not as peppy as I would like
-Aftermarket support is lacking
-Boomy at speed
I have now owned this car for a little over 2 weeks and I love it. I traded my '03 Subaru in for this little delight because my daily commute changed as well as my needs. My gas mileage has essentially doubled, I was able to keep a car that is as reliable as my Subaru was and I also have a car that is sharp looking and quick on its wheels (though woefully slow compared to the WRX). So far the car has given me the great MPG, and handles better than the Subaru ever did (on its optional 18' Enkei rims). I look forward to the next few years with this car. Hopefully this love affair will stay strong!
UPDATE: Although I sold the car 3 years ago, I would like to add a little more.
The car ended up not being what I needed after I moved away from Georgia. It remained reliable and fun for the 9 months I owned it and I would STILL recommend it to anyone. In all, I had one issue with it and the dealer fixed it in 15 minutes (leaky A/C drain hose). Great car for a great price.
It didn't promise much, but we get what was promised. We got the 5-speed, wanting to save on gas, thinking we'd be okay with the cramped space and lack of power (I think it only has 104 hp or something?
Anyway, it's not good for long trips and it's really not good for transporting anything.
It's also got a very weak panel system. I barely bumped it with my other car and it mooshed in the front panel horribly. I'd hate to think how it protected my family and me were I in a real accident.
Allright, well Ive had my XA for about 2 months already, and ive enjoyed it so much :-) It may look tiny on the outside, but when you get in it, its pretty roomy! The gauge placement was a little tricky getting used to, since it is located in the center of the dash. The Sound system is amazing, Scion/Toyota and pioneer teamed up, with a six speaker system! It has good pickup, considering it is a 4 cylinder engine! I have an Manual which makes it all more fun to drive. I also like how it comes with so many add-ons from Scion.. for insance you can go on Ebay, and bid on new fog lights! There are a lot of things you can do to an XA, if that is one of your interests! Also it is amazing on Gas Milage! I get anywhere from 400-450 Miles out of one tank of gas! Depending on highway driving. TOYOTA MADE IT, you can depend on it being strong long lasting and dependable!
