  • I hate Camrys in principle, yet must highly recommend this car (SE V6)

    Nov 21 '03
Pros: Performance, handling, ride, room, comfort, refinement, workmanship, popular, and now price
Cons: Bland styling, ugly tail lamps, not the most exciting sedan to drive, popular

Summary: I’ve always had a hard time getting excited about the Toyota Camry, despite its ever-increasing level of technical perfection. It has always seemed about as appliance-like as a car could get. Two years ago when the car was redesigned, Toyota made a ... read more

  • Rented 2004 Camry for a day

    Jan 04 '06
Pros: PRO: well-equipped, quiet, 4-cylinder has adequate power.
Cons: CON: felt every bump, sensitive to cross-winds, long travel on brake pedal.

Summary: We are looking for a second car (used) that will be quieter and more comfortable on long trips than our 1999 Corolla, with more space for carrying stuff to the cottage and to visit family. We rented a 2004 Camry LE 4-cylinder for a day as a test. In ... read more

  • Terrible Engine Hesitation and Brakes that have a mind of their own.

    May 03 '05
Pros: Lots of great features that you would expect in a $50,000 car for only $30,000.
Cons: Terrible hesitation, confused transmission and brakes that try to out think the driver.

Summary: At first we were thrilled with our new 2004 Camry XLE V6 that replaced our 1993 Camry XLE V6, but then we started noticing some very bad problems. First, the engine hesitation, that included a confused transmission down shifting and running the engine ... read more

  • A Very Well Made Car

    Dec 01 '04
    Pros: Roomier, Reliable, Stylish
    Cons: Lack of Brake Feel

Summary: Toyota vehicles have always been dependable. The 2004 Camry is no exception. Camry has three trims. The base LE, SE with optional V6 and XLE with optional V6. I recently bought a 2004 Camry SE and am very satisfied. I picked the SE trim because ... read more

  • It's like a trusted old friend

    Oct 10 '04
Pros: Fit and finish, roominess, quietness of ride, impressive power from the base 4 cylinder engine
Cons: Loose handling in tight curves, small outside mirrors

Summary: The first time I drove the 5th generation Camry was shortly after its release in 2002. It was a rental car with about 16 miles on odometer and I had a 75 mile drive on mountain roads to test it out. I was immediately impressed with the interior ... read more

  • Keeps getting better

    Oct 05 '04
Pros: Reliable. Comfortable. Quiet. Decent mileage. Great value. Nice improvements.
Cons: Not much. Speakers have muddled bass. Dash has nice materials, but still somehow bland.

Summary: My wife and I have owned Camry's for years. They're generally very reliable, but each model seems to have their own quirks. For comparison, a brief history of their relative merits: The 1987 model had a muffler that needed to be replaced about once a ... read more

  • Terrific Body, Engine and Drive. Boring Interior.

    Sep 21 '04
Pros: Spacious, quiet cabin. Excellent finish, powerful ride. Very reliable, high resale.
Cons: Youngsters might want the V6.

Summary: Exterior Tall, graceful, expensive and powerful-looking. Clean, sculpted lines, looks much more expensive than it is. Exterior fit and finish is excellent! Paint is very smooth and waxing can help maintain it. Interior Dash: Plain, ... read more

  • Surprise, Surprise! A Car with serious alignment problem!

    Aug 15 '04
    Pros: Good price. Quiet.
Cons: Persistent pull to left (widespread, and difficult to fix)

Summary: Summary My Camry comes with this defect: It persistently pulls toward left on freeway and is extremely difficult to fix. This is not an isolated incidence. The same problem has plagued many Camry since 2002. Surprisingly Toyota does not know how to ... read more

  • An appliance with steering

    Jul 01 '04
Pros: Reliable and capable transportation. Well constructed and good for highway commutes.
Cons: A very "point A to point B" kind of car. Styling is bland and uninspired.

Summary: This review is the result of my eight days driving a 2004 Camry LE (Base w/ 4 cylinder) that I rented from Hertz at the Dulles airport in Virginia. I drove the car around the Washington, D.C. area as well as Western Maryland and South Central ... read more

  • 2004 Toyota Camry XLE

    Jan 29 '04
Pros: A great car with many amenities. The Camry rides and handles like a luxury car.
Cons: Front seat cushions a little short, and the door/steering wheel controls are not illuminated.

Summary: The last Camry I had was a 98 LE which I was very satisfied with. That car rode nicely, handled adequately, and got good gas mileage. I leased this 04 XLE (4 cylinder)in early December and am very pleased with the overall driving experience. Since ... read more

Pros: it's a Toyota, quality, reputation for reliability, low maintenance, lot of car for your money
Cons: ABS not standard, alot of things are options, plain looking wheel covers, speedometer

Summary: update 04/24/04 The IIHS did side impact tests on 12 midsize cars. And the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry (both with side airbags) were the only ones the were rated good. So if you're safety concerned opt. for the side airbags on the Camry, its only ... read more

  • Hesitation & NO Brakes

    Jul 07 '05
    Pros: Great gas mileage
    Cons: no acceleration, no brakes.

Summary: Wow! When I read orblackfz1's review, I knew I wasn't crazy. My 2004 Camry Limited Edition is terrible. The engine spits and hesitates and the brakes don't work very well. I've had the car since 11/04 and put 49,000 miles on it. The problems
