Pros: Acceleration, comfort Cons: Numb non-linear steering, price
Id never driven one, yet the S80 T6 was one of those cars I could not figure out the point of. Why would anyone spend roughly $45,000 for a Volvo, even one with a 268-horsepower turbocharged six? For that kind of money many other cars seemed more ...

Great Car So Far (6 mo.)
by firemedic38 ,Dec 23 '04
Pros: Good acceleration, virtually no turbo lag, comfortable, good fuel economy, nice ride, good value, stereo Cons: climate control difficult to understand, no change holder, needs more gauges
Bought a 2004 S80 T6 just before the 2005's came out. Incentives were great! Paid 37,500 for it which was well below other imports of similar quality. After 6 months I have not need service once. Everything has been fantastic!
The car performs well and has great acceleration with virtually no turbo lag. Very comfortable to drive although have not been in it for more than 3 hours at a time. Fuel mileage is good compared to the Navigator which got around 13 average. We are averaging about 19 in the S80, (mostly in town).
We moved from a Lincoln Navigator to the S80 which is much smaller in size, however does not have that closed in feeling that we get with most cars.
Trunk space is good with rear seats that fold down to provide more room. Rear seat passengers are comfortable with plenty of leg and head room.
The sound system is the best I've heard without spending $$$ to upgrade to an aftermarket system. 5 disc CD changer is nice and the system gives you good options for sound quality. No preset buttons, but the selector knob is fine once you get used to it.

Like the roominess, but watch the transmission
by ddavidd ,Feb 07 '04
Pros: roominess Cons: poor quality
faulty transmission
I like the overall S80's roominess and value. However, this car seems like it needs a quality upgrade. The transmission is slipping - which the dealer says is normal. Also - minor things like door locks falling off show a lack of attention to detail.

Smooth ride with plenty of power
by michaelsdca ,Jan 10 '04
Pros: Attractive, smooth and quiet, comfortable, and safe Cons: Only dealership can remove maintenance messages in dash
I purchased the S80 T6. The T6 is a bit more expensive, but the 265 horsepower makes the ride smoother. You can see from the photos at the Volvo site that it's a good looking car. It is a very quiet, very smooth ride, so if you like to "feel the road" then try a BMW. Overall, I'm very happy with my T6. One thing that I find irritating, however, is that a service message appears in the dash every 7,000 miles, and I haven't found a mechanic outside of the dealership who knows how to turn it off. The idea of going to the dealership for oil changes and routine maintenance is a turn-off.

Wow, great car !
by backdoctor1 ,May 31 '05
Pros: Quality feel, fast (with the twin turbo), Volvo safety. Cons: No satilite radio available.
After owning an Infinity Q45 for a few years. I decided to go european, as I have previous to the Q45. I purchased my S80 in October of 2004. Silver with black interior. I am very satisfied with the car in all facets. The twin turbo does have a slight lag, but very momentarily, then wooosh. Handling is fantastic, the braking is great, too. The car is extremely quiet, even with the windows down and can't hear the engine. There is cheap feeling about it, the quality of the materials, to the nice sound of the doors shutting. If you think there are too many BMW's and Mercedes' (like I do) then this is a great alternative. This is a great car, sporty and fun to drive.

Quality Issues
by mkemmer ,Dec 15 '03
Pros: Looks nice, great audio, spacious Cons: Serious quality issues
My S80 had a serious vibration in the wheels and steering wheel. It took four attempts by the dealer's service department, including two forced balancing and four brand new tires, before the vibration was fixed. There are several rattles now, which are likely a result of the vibration. In cold weather, the transmission does not shift smoothly from 2nd to 3rd gear.
I traded in a Saab 9-5 Aero, and I would go back to that car in a second. Saab builds a very high-quality vehicle.
