Is That Your Face...Or An Alligator Purse?!?

First let me start by saying that I am 38 years old but am told constantly that I don't look like I am even out of my twenties yet. I believe that the youthful appearance of my facial skin has a lot to do with why most people cannot accurately guess my age.
There are a many reasons that women get wrinkles and I believe that there are ways to prevent or slow this process. My grandmother taught me at a pretty young age that I needed to moisturize my skin on a daily basis. She even went out and bought me a bottle of very expensive moisturizer made by Estee Lauder. Thus began my journey down the road of taking care of my skin. Since that day when my grandmother took me on her knee (not literally) and taught me of the importance of taking care of my face and moisturizing it I have continued religiously with my regimen.
Over the years I have tried many different creams and concoctions on my face and have been happy with most of them. I can't say that I have seen any miracles performed with anything I have use, although I have noticed subtle changes in appearances with the use of certain products. My most recent trial was with Avon's Anew Retroactive Creme. I am an Avon representative so I tried this new product out in order to tell my customers the benefits of using it.
This product is actually supposed to re-program your skin cells to make your skin believe it is younger! The company guarantees results in two weeks and claims you will see a difference in the appearance of lines and the overall look of your face. Alas, it did nothing for me except to break out my face to the point of making me look about 16 years old again. However, all of the customers I have sold it to have been completely satisfied with the results.
One product that I use and can actually say has made a difference in my lines is Mary Kay's Triple Action Eye Enhancer. I have been using this product around my eye area for a few months now and have definitely seen that the lines around my eyes look less noticeable than they used to.
I think there are things out there that will actually help the appearance of your skin. Unfortunately, it is a matter of trial, error and expense. What I recommend to anyone is to make your skin a priority if you want it to stay youthful and glowing. Limit your exposure to the sun. Wear foundation that has SPF in it as well as moisturizer. Invest in a good pair of sunglasses that will actually stop you from squinting. Get plenty of rest and drink lot's of water. Don't smoke, since smoking can cause a ton of wrinkles in many areas on your face.
Take care of your skin daily. Cleanse and moisturize every day, exfoliate your skin a few times a week. Take special care with the skin around your eyes. Don't pull or tug on it because it is very sensitive. Oh yes, and don't forget to treat your neck the same as your face. I did not learn about this until a few years ago unfortunately. I think that by moisturizing every day, twice a day and following the steps I mentioned above, I have kept wrinkles at bay. I also believe that genetics plays a part in how you age.
I guess the point I am trying to make is that you probably can't completely get rid of wrinkles once you have them. But you can prevent yourself from getting more. And if you are still young enough, you can help your skin from an early age. Even so, it is still fun to try all the new products and pamper yourself! ;o)
