Don't Leave Home Without It!

Hmmm five essential skin care products that I cannot do without when I travel? Let me see.... Water, Water, Water, Water.... oh and I did I say Water?!
Seriously though, water is the most important component in your travel bag, especially if your travels entail long flights, time changes and big itineraries.
A 5,000-mile long distance relationship saw me flying back and forth between London and San Francisco. The ten-hour flights were a killer to my skin. I used to always have an in-flight "survival" kit with me.
Water can singularly save you in more ways than one:
* Drink - copiously! It can re-hydrate your skin from within
* Spray - mist your face body, when you are feeling jaded and hot
* Clean - you can cleanse your face, or throw it on stain!
* Protect - use it as the first thing you want to clean a cut or graze.
So what else is in my little skin care survival kit?
Here's my top five "must haves"!
Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Eight-Hour Cream Skin Protectant
Oooooh, I wish I could suggest this as an item on Epinions. It deserves a category all of it's own.
A spectacular cream which resembles lanolin in texture. It really is an all-purpose cream. It can be used to treat sunburn, bites, rashes and dry skin. I use it to moisturize my face prior to a flight and arrive at my destination with soft, smooth re-hydrated skin. You need only apply it sparingly, despite the directions to use it liberally - a little goes a long way. It comes in a 50ml tube, which makes it ideal for travel.
Where to purchase: Larger department stores, such as Macy's
Retail Price: $14:00
Lubriderm Daily UV (SPF 15) Lotion
To be honest, this is what I have in my travel kit right now, but any moisturizing lotion would suffice. However, I'd recommend that it have an SPF of at least 15+. Your entire body requires protection and this cream is good enough to put on your face. This lotion is free of lanolin, dye and scent and will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. It comes in a compact size of 177ml (6 fl oz) and has a easy to use dispenser that seals.
Where to purchase: Walgreens, RiteAid and other drugstores and supermarkets
Retail Price: $4:99
Clinque Super City Block SPF 25
I have to admit, I used to be a bit of Clinque clone! I bought ALL their products until motherhood made me seek out cheaper options. However, there are no cheap imitations worthy of Clinque's Super City Block. It is a great product that protects your face with an SPF of 25 and gives you a wonderful tinted moisturizer all in one. It is actually marketed as an "under make up" base, but I use it instead of foundation. Not only does it protect you from sun damage, but also those nasty pollutants we "face" everyday!
I know, there's a theme here, but do yourself a favor and protect, protect, protect your face from the sun. Tanned wrinkles aren't attractive to anyone!
Where to purchase: Department stores such as Macy's and online at: www.clinque.com
Retail Price: $14:50
Lancome Rouge Absolu Lipstick (Rose Nu)
I do not really bother with make up when I travel, but I swear if you are wearing lipstick, it gives the illusion that you are wearing some! I've pleaded poverty above, but here I am with my favorite lipstick of all time. Lancome's Rouge Absolu at a ridiculous price of $20. I blame those nice beauty consultants at department stores. One of them convinced me to try this one, gave me a sample and I have been hooked every since. I would recommend any lipstick that you love as an asset in your "survival kit". Not only does it make you look fresh but it also protects your lips too. Chapstick is cheaper and as effective, but somehow doesn't quite feel the same!
Where to purchase: Department Stores and online at: www.lancome.com
Retail Price: approx $20
And finally....
Pond's Cleansing and Make-up Remover Towelettes
I used to have good old travel wipes and would use them to freshen up. Most travel wipes contain alcohol and this has no different an affect on your skin, as it does to your body if taken internally - dehydration. This new product is superb. The towelettes are soft and are about the size of a wash cloth. A great "on the road" product, which comes in a re-sealable, compact little box. They remove make up, sweat and dirt, are safe for contact lens wearers and are alcohol free.
Where to purchase: Drugstores and online at: www.drugstore.com
Retail Price: $4.99 for 30
So that's my little survival kit and my five essential skin care products which, I cannot live without. Let me reiterate though, that the very best skin product you can take on your travel is that little bottle of aqua. Take a look at the list of ingredients on all those wonderful skin products you have, I'll wager that the first ingredient is that priceless gift = water!
