Shhh! It's a Secret!
Jan 09 '01
Hi: Well here we go again trying to find the answer to that age old question of "how do we keep our youthful skin?"
I, like many of you have tried products that have left me rather disgruntled to say the least. At times I have felt like a slippery eel, a dried out prune and once was afraid to show myself in public because of the "strawberry red rash" left on my face after one of these "miracle treatments."
After stumbling around blindly trying the new and wonder creams and scrubs and never finding an answer, I happened to meet a wise old lady who changed my way of thinking.
First off, this lady was beautiful. She had a radiant smile that matched her radiant skin and radiant outlook. Her eyes sparkled and her laughter made you think of little puppies, ice cream and snuggling.
She told me that growing old was a natural part of our internship and that we could learn easily how to find and use the simplest and most accessible methods to keep our bodies healthy, wealthy and wise.
This became a very interesting conversation to say the least. She was a breath of fresh air to this age concerned individual.
I respectfully questioned her wonderful complexion and she told me that she was 72 years young and enjoying life to the fullest.
At the moment she was planning a trip to Bermuda just to see what new excitement and mischief she could get into.
A kindly soul who took pity on me and whispered her secret for peaches and cream complexion.
With a smile and a wink she explained that all she had ever used as a daily facial was commonly referred to as being able to "keep the doctor away."
I could hardly believe my ears.
A simple APPLE (preferably organic!)
She cores and quarters the apple and applies it to her entire face, (gently rubbing the inner side of the apple into the skin) and focusing on problem areas.
She uses the apple as a cooling and wondrous facial each and every day. For her, mornings were the most appropriate, but she confided in me that occasionally in the evenings she pampers herself an "apple facial" while enjoying a good book.
Of course, my doubtful nature thought that there must be more to her claim to fame, but my never ending search for the fountain of youth, forbid me to ignore her solution to growing old.
We talked for hours and I realized that not only did this fair maiden live an exiting and envious life but she had it "all together".
I promised to try her facial and purchased an organic apple that very day.
I made it very clear to the cashier in the supermarket that I was going to enjoy devouring this wonderful fresh apple.
Never letting on that I was not intending to eat this delectable tidbit.
At home a few minutes later, I immediately washed and quartered the apple and then, being extremely careful not to look conspicuous, silently stole away into my bedroom, pulled the blinds and bolted the door.
("Just in case my family or friends might witness my having finally gone over the edge".)
At first I felt rather foolish laying on the bed and applying apple to my face, but I must admit the procedure was indeed relaxing and cooling and very sweet to the senses.
When my face was covered I relaxed and enjoyed this pampering.
After about 10 minutes I gently rinsed off with warm water and patted dry.
I experienced a freshness and a deep, clean feeling that I could not describe.
Something I had never experienced with any of the expensive miracle treatments.
Now, after spoiling myself to an apple a day for over a year now,I can honestly say that my skin never looked so good. I have saved mega dollars, time and all the tiresome antics of "staying young from a bottle". My family and friends are now convinced that I really am not quite over the edge yet.
As a matter of fact, several of them have been seen with the inconspicuous cored and quartered apple in the vicinity of their bedroom.
Wonderful compliments and just an all over good feeling about my appearance makes me grateful for the precious time and memory of that special day with my now friend, accomplice and sidekick to excitement and mischief.
