| SantiagoB's Full Review: Pirsig, Robert M |
Pirsig is one of philosophies greatest minds. I had an interesting chance encounter when I was in grad school for psychology in the midwest 10 years ago in Michigan and I had just finished a paper on Personality Psychology. I was so focused on getting a good grade on this particular paper, I was cocky enough to send it in to this fabulous author. I had read Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance; and also Lila, which is a book about the metaphysics of dynamic good. Interestingly enough, he had sent my graduate school paper back and it had red ink marks all over it.
He had comments saying your not centered or balanced enough, you might
want to do a Zen Sesshin. At the time, I was infuriated with his comments, but now when I look back at the time. He was right! I hope I get another lucky break to meet him in person. I had only corresponded with Robert with one letter and then my graduate paper on Personality Paradigms. He's an interesting author/narrator. You learn about the distintions of "dynamic quality" and "static quality." You'll also learn more about "the Metaphysics of Dynamic good" should you pursue the Truth.
Now a days, I'm after more practical philosophy or psychology you can use such as neuro linguistic programming, finance and interactive websites.
Life is blend of good ideas that work. I hope you can learn something from Pirsig. Just read his books, forget all those commentaries about him. Read the books and you'll learn what true philosophy is all about!
