Audio Books - A great way to survive rush hour
Dec 22 '99
I have found audio books a great way to survive the long Atlanta rush hours. I actually can't wait to drop off the kids at school in the morning so I can listen to whatever book I happen to be "reading" at that time. Co-workers and I have developed an audio book library in our office so we can all share what audio books we have.
At first, it was hard to concentrate on the "goings on" in a book. So if you are a rookie to audio books, try starting out with books that have simpler plots, such as Danielle Steel or Lawrence Sanders. Once you develop the concentration level to be able to keep up with the book, your choices are endless. Also, some actors read much better than others, once you find an actor that you like, usually the book will list the other books he/she has read, and you can listen to them too. But I have found that you might want to listen to a book read by a different author in between - it's easier to keep the plots apart that way.
I am a busy mother of two who also works full-time. I was once an avid reader and missed it tremendously. Audio books keep me up with the best sellers and the classics alike. I rarely have a chance to sit and really read a book. Nothing can replace actually reading a book word-for-word - but listening to one can still be rewarding.
