This is a criticism of the series than the particular book. I loved the first few books in the Wheel of Time Series. The stories were complex, the characters were colorful. Jordan can write pages on a single aspect of a character. At first it the level of detail was thrilling. The depth of the characters was great. Like others who have posted reviews her, I skipped meals and entire nights of sleep as I read books 1-5.
The problem is something starts to go horribly wrong in book 6. Nothing happens for hundreds and hundreds of pages. Just to prove my point, and to save my friend the misery, I gave the series for a friend without book 7 and he did not even realize he had not read one of the books in the series. This is 1,200 pages of book and he knew he was missing a few details but he picked right up with the story after a few pages of book 8. That is how little happens in the later books.
The complexity of books also becomes a problem because it can be years between books so in every book Jordan has to define all the terms for you. The twentieth time you read about The Dragon Reborn you just want to destroy the book. Yes he is going insane already. If Jordan brings that up one more time I am going to go insane.
