What to do if You get Jelly on Your Keyboard

You hear a pathetic splat just beneath where your hands are holding your toast and OH MY GOD, IT’S HAPPENED. A large blob of jelly has fallen from your snack and onto the space between your spacebar and the M key. AsyoutypeafranticInstantMessagetoyourfriend, youwonder, “WhatifIcan’teverusemyspacebaragain???!”

It’ll all be okay. Step by step guide to saving your most frequently used key in your computer system.

1 Breathe.

2 Okay now think a minute. The thing you ought to do right away is lean down and suck the jelly off the surface of the keyboard. This way the weight won’t push the lump further into the keypad. Don’t use your tongue, because that makes the sticky jelly spread around more.

3 Look at your keyboard. What you should see now is a semi-clean set of keys and a little of the sticky mess in between them. Get a pen, pencil, knife, anything with a pointed tip, and slide it in between the keys, to force the jelly to the surface. You can take it all out this way.

4 You may think, “Oh, now the jelly is gone. Now I can use my keyboard again.” Get a tissue. You probably have some near your computer or on your coffee table. Put some water or spit on the tissue and push it down in the crack where the jelly has fallen, and wipe it back and forth, until you’re convinced that it's not sticky anymore.

Spilled water on your keyboard?

1 Well, assuming that you’ve only spilled a little, check to see where the water is. If it spilled around your number pad or arrow keys, pop off the plastic tops to the keys and run a tissue. Put the caps back on by pressing them on the keys.

2 If you’ve spilled it in the middle of your alphabet pad, then leave it alone, friend. Wait for it to evapourate. Refrain from using the area for maybe 20 minutes.

3 If you've spilled soda, I think a wet tissue treatment is appropriate for the surface of the keys, to get rid of the sticky residue.

Good luck in performing this minor surgery on your little plastic baby. It worked for mine! She's runnin' smooth.
