The Chronicles of Narnia. I was recently reminded of this book. For Christmas, my husbands father gave us the book on cd. I first read these "children's" books at the tender age of 28. I had never heard of them before that time. My husband once mentioned "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe", and I soon found myself at the library searching for this book. Much to my pleasure, it was part of a series. (I LOVE series!)
I took home that first book and read it in one day. The story is captivating. What will happen to these children? Will they survive the wrath of the White Witch? Will they go back home? No, it is not a scary story. And is totally appropriate for children. In fact, C.S. Lewis takes many of his lessons from the Bible.
C.S. Lewis does an amazing job painting the picture of Narnia in children's (and your) minds. The clash between good and evil is classic but it is nicely presented in this story.
My own children are not yet at the reading level for this book. I would suggest it 4th graders. A little younger if they are very good readers. Be prepared, if you begin with "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" you will be compelled to read them all. But that is ok, take your time and enjoy them. Read them for the first time. Or read them again. But defineately read them with your children. Or let them read read it to you.
