Betty Crocker's Old Fashioned Cook Book Should Be Your Cooking Bible!

When I was first married, I was given Betty Crocker's Cook Book. It taught me how to cook from scratch! Now, if you think you do not need to learn to cook from scratch, consider these thoughts: It is healthier to cook this way (less or no preservatives needed), it is cheaper to cook this way (prepared foods are expensive!), it teaches you how to substitute what you DO have in the home for those things you thought you had ready to cook, but do not have on hand, it tastes like home made when you are done, because it IS!

This cookbook doesn't tell you to run out and buy prepared foods in order to cook. I mention this, because so many of the cook books I see, now, do exactly that. If your child/ren have allergies to certain preservatives, food colorings, etc., you do not need to worry about it, if you are putting IN all the ingredients! You KNOW what is in there! One of my sons was allergic to so many foods, that had I not had this wonderful book to rely upon, I don't, honestly, know what I would have been able to do. This was over 30 years ago, and food was not found that had no preservatives, no food colorings, with ease. I made the bread, I made the peanut butter, I made sweets by using apple juice in place of sugar, I had to prepare everything that went into his little mouth. I learned a lot about what manufacturers were putting into jars during those years.

Another son is hypoglycemic. Having a book that led me to cooking from scratch was mandatory for us. Remember, 33 years ago, you could not just go to the store and buy preservative free foods, at all! We grew our vegetables and fruits, so that we knew exactly what was in them. It was THAT serious of reactions that we were dealing with!

Everything from how to make candy to how to make and to serve grand meat dishes is in this book. It even teaches quantities, for the beginner cook. The book has beautiful pictures of the foods, and you CAN make those pictures a reality by following the simple to understand recipes. There is even a word definition section, if you do not understand what a particular recipe is explaining for you to do.

This is the cookbook I use today. I've had many cookbooks come and go, but, this one is filled with spots and stains from use after use! This is the cook book every cook should have at his/her fingertips, at all times!
