Bigwords means cost savings!

Having a need for new textbooks every 6 months, I have come to the rightful conclusion that university bookstores are far too expensive for this humble college goer. So I have devised methods of working around it. After several semesters of experience, I have come to the conclusion that the company with consistently low prices has been Bigwords at Bigwords.com. I always shop around simply because I don't like to pay high prices when there is no need. And for some reason, I just come back to Bigwords time after time.

Bigwords gives discounts of up to 40% off their texts and they have an extensive inventory available. While some companies claim to have the text I am searching for, but then later cancel my order because they do not have the book, Bigwords has never let me down. They have had all my books and have sent them in reasonable time. Sometimes sooner than I would actually like (not having the books makes it impossible to do the readings).

Also, Bigwords offers free shipping. That's right, FREE shipping on al its orders. They use UPS shipping and also have other shipping options as well. For instance, the standard 3-5 day business day shipping option is free. The 2-3 day business day shipping is about $8 and the next day shipping is about $14.

Bigwords also has a buy back option which I have used before. You simply register the books that you are sending back and they give you a prepaid mailing label. There are two options for buy back. Either you can redeem your books for Bigwords credit or for cash. Clearly, redeeming your books for cash is a lesser amount than if you redeemed it for credit and the difference is rather significant (roughly 20%). Once you print out the mailing label, you can stuff your books in a box and ship them out. However, the condition of the books are considered in buy back and if Bigwords deems the condition unsatisfactory, they hand the books over to charity, not back to you. So beware.

There are some issues with the Bigwords customer service. The representatives are rather courteous and all, but the performance of the service could be improved upon. They are slow in canceling orders or changing them, and very slow in transferring credit. I cancelled an order that I had purchased on credit (from books that I sold back) and the credit has not yet been restore. There is the possibility that the credit transfer may take up to 3 weeks which is rather outrageous.

Nevertheless, this is one incident which has not deterred me from using Bigwords and their great prices. And who can beat free shipping.
