Blessings or curses

Blessings or curses...self help books can actually become a crutch or an addiction. Reading one after another and another can be a trap. These glowing euphoric descriptions of the new you, on the way to a perfect new life give an immediate rush. So often the reader runs out and buys another book upon the completion of a "good read".
This can become a way of avoiding the very issues the reader is trying to confront.
Self Help books are meant to be read and reread with all the exercises applied in your life. In order to effect any changes in life , the inner work must be done first. Then and only then do you begin to see results. Find an author that speaks to you and follow his advice. Make sure the book is pragmatic and not filled with "airy fairy" platitudes that are just a feel good read.
I only caution that there is not a quick fix in reading. Ask yourself if you have the perseverance, time and patience for self help, otherwise your time and money might be spent somewhere else with more benefit.
Where do my opinions come from? Right off my bookshelves which are filled with self help books. I was the original self help junkie until I
slowed down and began to use all this wealth of material I owned. Then and only then did my life change for the better.
