Pros:Very accurate information, Easy to use, even a beginner will be able to understand it
Cons:The copy I have was published in 1990. The charts are only good through that year, therefore you cannot make charts for anyone born after 1990.
I've had my copy of this book for 8 years now. I've found it to be very useful for when I was still on the dating scene. I was able to do a personalized birth chart on the man I was interested in and know, in a convincing fashion, just how compatible we would be.
I also found this book to be a good conversation piece. Many people may profess to be disbelievers in Astrology, but seven times out of ten, if you offer to do a personalized chart for them, their curiosity compels them to take you up on your offer.
This book, written by Joseph F. Goodavage originally in 1968 has been revised and republished several times. I think that is a true indicator as to how popular a book is.
This book is extremely easy to use. While the chart you do using this book won't be totally accurate since it doesn't have the charts for you to take into account place of birth and the influences that has on your birth chart, it is still pretty good.
It also doesn't give the charts for your sign in Mercury, but has you instead read the descriptions of certain signs in Mercury and decide off of that. So that too, will impact how accurate your charts are.
However, aside from these two drawbacks, your charts will still be more accurate than what you will find in the Sunday Newspaper under Horoscopes.
The third drawback of this book is that my personal copy was published in 1990 and the charts are only through 1990. Therefore, if you had a child in 1993, like I did, you could not do your child's birth chart. Of course, this may not be applicable if a newer version has since been published, but my searches have not turned up a newer copy.
This book is an excellent book for a beginner. It explains things in a manner very easy to understand. Anyone with a budding interest in Astrology would do well to get this book, along with Linda Goodman's Star Signs and Sun Signs and learn the basics. Then you could progress onto other books that are more in-depth and a bit more complicated.
To use this book, you will need some basic information about the person you are doing the chart for. That information is as follows:
Full Date of Birth:
You need the month, date, year in order to use the majority of the charts in this book. Without that information, you might as well not even attempt to do this person's chart. So if the person is reluctant to tell you the year of their birth, you just need to tell them that you regret you cannot make a chart for them.
Time of Birth:
This one is very important since many people do not know their time of birth. You can do a chart without this information, but you will not be able to determine that person's ascendent (or rising sign as it is also known).
And that's it. Not a lot of information needed, huh? That's one of the reasons this book is so easy to use. Another reason is that this book includes blank horoscope wheels that you can fill in the information on. It also tells you what the symbols are for the different signs and the different planets.
This makes it a lot easier to plot your charts. Instead of having to write out Venus in Pisces on your chart, which would take up quite a bit of space, you would just write the symbol for woman in the spot on the horoscope wheel for Pisces.
Once you've finished looking up the information for what signs were under what planetary influence at the time of the person's birth, you can go back and read the description given for each of these.
Often times, when you read these descriptions to the person whose chart you just compiled, they will be amazed at just how much of it accurately describes them.
So, whether your interest stems from a new interest in Astrology, or a curiosity about the people around you, you can find this book very interesting and very helpful.
