What if there was another world close by where violence was unheard of, where no one worked, no one owned any possessions and love was freely given and received? Sound a little like heaven or maybe a John Lennon song? Well this is the world created by Robin Cook in his new book, Abduction.
I really liked this book, it was a fast, fun read that I couldn't wait to finish to find out what happens next. This is a little different than some of his other books, there are no doctors or mysterious diseases involved. Don't let that little fact stop you though, because change can be good.
The characters are interesting although there isn't a lot of background on any of them, just basics. There are a few stereotypical characters who remain true to form throughout the entire book. Homophobia is rampant and gets two of the main characters into hot water two times over.
To summarize, a diving expedition which includes and oceanographer, a retired Naval officer, two bumbling former-Navy divers (the homophobics I referred to) and the president of an ocean exploratory company mysteriously disappears during a dive to explore an unexplained underwater formation. To their surprise they find there is a whole other society under the surface of the ocean which they will become a part of. It is the bumps along the way that make the story interesting. Just remember to keep an open mind!
Happy reading!
