Ok, I don't know if this was what I was supposed to do or not but I couldn't find this title and thought what the heck, at least no one can say I put this in the wrong category.
First of all I would like to say that I normally don’t buy cookbooks for weight loss due to the fact that I never stay on a plan that lasts longer than the next meal. Yet this last May 8th I joined Weight Watchers and have been on the program since (that alone is a miracle). While I have been on this program the one issue I have is cooking foods that are not only tasty but also good for you. You see I’m one of those cooks that never measured anything and added ingredients until I thought the taste was good, that could be the reason that I have a weight problem: o)
Nevertheless, as I mentioned I started Weight Watchers and not only did I need to lose weight I needed to learn how to cook. I knew I would not stay on a diet that required carrots and celery as a staple. So I bought this cookbook hoping it would help, my first mistake was buying it from a book club; you don’t get to peek inside. While there are some good recipes like Chili Meat loaf, Honey Wheat Bread and Dijon Pot Roast and Vegetables. I cook for my husband and 16 year old son and who in their right mind is going to make Corfu-Style Cod, what in the heck is Corfu? And Roasted Asparagus and Goat Cheese Crostini. Goat cheese, have you ever-tasted goat cheese? My son and Husband would both divorce me and I would not blame them.
Some of the information added to the book is very helpful such as cooking tips, menus for the week, food storage and metric equivalents. There are also inspirational success stories that I found enjoyable. I’m always looking for inspiration and some of the stories give me hope that I to will succeed. As of today I have lost 60 lbs and that is because this is a lifestyle change for me. Yet my husband and son don't need to worry about weight so they aren't looking for any kind of change.
They must have needed fillers for this book because the one thing I don’t need in a cookbook is information on how beer could help prevent blood clots. I also don’t need helpful hints on how to get my children to eat healthy early, although I think this is useful information I don’t want it in my cookbook.
So with that said I will tell you that had I found this book in the store I would have left it on the shelf. There are 192 pages with more than 250 recipes and out of that I will probably make 50. And for the price of $25.00 it's a steal. Wouldn't you think a multi million dollar program could do better?
