Let Your Child's Imagination Take Them Anywhere With BooksMay 03 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Growing up I was read to a lot by my parents. I remember sitting on my dad's lap as he read "3 Little Pigs", "Jack and the Beanstalk" and many more. But still with being read to so much I don't like to read as much as I should. In school I would rather watch the movie that was based on the book or do anything to get out of it. I do read the newspaper, sports magazines, gaming magazines and watch the news to know what is going on today's world, or my wife will tell me the latest news. Now my wife is a different story. She was read to as a child and still loves to read. We have books everywhere of hers from Stephen king to Danielle Steele. She likes to read so she can imagine in her mind what everything looks like to her, not by watching a movie and seeing it. Now that we have a daughter, Jordan. it is Jennifer who reads to Jordan every night. I know that reading is a wonderful bonding experience for child and parent, I have ways of my own to bond with Jordan (watches me play my computer games, tries to play to, going to the store with me for daddy time, etc.). The reading is Jennifer's and our daughter's bonding time together. Reading also teaches kids how to talk by watching your mouth move to form words, they will feel better about them selves, teaches colors, and what things look like, etc.. Every night my wife has Jordan on her lap with a few books to read and look at, Disney Baby books are Jordan's favorite. It takes about 20 minutes for Jennifer to read one book, with her teaching her colors, shapes, what the name is for everything on the page, and reading. There have been a few times you will see me pick up a book and read to Jordan, mostly I just show her the pictures. You can also tape your self reading their favorite books and using it to help them feel safe when you are away and they are at the sitter's. With so much violence on television today it is better to get out a book and read to your kids. I do admit to watching to much wrestling, but recently I have cut back and soon will no longer watch it. With so much swearing, nudity, fighting, name calling and putting others down I do not want my daughter to watch that and think that is the only way to solve your problem. I recommend you try to read to your kids once a day. It is a great way to get their imaginations working. At play time their imaginations will be so strong they can think up some outrageous games and stay occupied for hours. |
