I think we started reading to our daughter when she was only a few weeks old. She loved to try and reach for the colored pages and as she got older to touch and feel them. She now is 28 months old and reading is a big part of our lives. She loves lift and flap books which improves her coordination and memory skills. She loves to ask,"What's that?" We read at all times of the day, but try to make it a ritual at bedtime. She knows this and tries the one more time routine, so that she can stay up a little longer.
I love to have her sit on my lap and cuddle when we read. As a toddler she is so on the go, that sometimes you don't get all of the closeness that the mom wants! Those little legs never seem to get tired!
I have recently purchased some of the older I Can Read Books that I used to have as a child for my daughter. She likes to look at the pictures and hear the stories. I can't wait until she can read the books to me!
The earlier the better!
