Sleepless In Anderson, Indiana
by AinsleyJo | Oct 24 '00
There's no man on Earth who's going to brainwash me into voting against my own personal convictions.

I don't care if we're talking about the most swoon-inspiring man on the Epinions.com website who is trying to charm all of us damsels into...

Awllllll. . .it's so nice to feel wanted, and you certainly make me feel that way!!!

At this time, I've been really busy between my dad, helping out with the Terri Schindler-Schiavo case, and a few other things.

If you would like to know more about Terri, go to her website at:

http://www.terrisfight.org

And you can find directions to a forum I've started about her by clicking the link on the first page of my homepage.

I know you've been there, because you left a sweet message in my guestbook, but I'll go ahead and put the URL here for anyone else:

http://www.hoosierpoetplus.com

Don't know when I'll be writing about the stalking songs, but hope to before long. Getting ready to go to Uncle Kermit's next week!

Hugs!

I'm missing your writing, AJ!!! I voted to let George do it, too!

I'm waiting for your stalking song list. In the meantime, if Eric Carmen re-wrote "Hey Deanie" for Shaun Cassidy, it would go: "Hey AJ, won't you come out and write / the stars are dancing like diamonds in the moonlight / Hey AJ, won't you come out and write?"

I get pretty weird at 5 am, I think! LOL!

That's for me to know and you to guess! (Just kidding!!!)

I ended up voting to let George do it.

There were times during the campaign when I was tempted to write in Keith Hamilton Cobb (enough of a studmuffin to get the EvenMoreDeliciousThanTimHorton'sGoodies Award)--or even Beavis & Butthead!!! lolololol

Of course, there's another person I'd have no problem deciding about if he ever ran for President (very likely to happen in the future!!!)!!! :o)

So who did you vote for? (Reply to this comment)
by sax_angel
You could have done what I did. I simply could not bring myself to vote for either of them, so I voted for Harrison Ford. He makes a good president in the movies. I figured he couldn't do a worse job than any of the characters who were running.

What a year!!!

Sometimes, I'm just tempted to raise the stylus as far in the air as the little chain attached to one end will let me; close my eyes; drop it onto the voting booklet; and vote for the candidate closest to where the poking end of the stylus lands! That is, the two top ones. The other two aren't even in the running for me.

And I have my cherished friend of over 25 years practically down on his knees kissing my toes to get me to vote for Gore. And Mark has those pleading puppy-dog eyes--and he tells me how then-Senator Gore was so effective in getting the mess cleaned up that was denying him his Veterans' benefits.

Yet here comes Jim along with his own set of facts. Jim and Mark are both precious guys with IQs measuring somewhere around 1,000,000. Mark's pretty up on politics, but Jim still seems to have somewhat more knowledge in this area. And he has met George W. Bush, and the guy has been nice to him. And Jim's facts point to Al Gore as someone who can't tell (or refuses to tell) truth from lies.

Of course, Mark says that Al Gore isn't a liar--just a shy sort of guy who gets flustered during public speaking and babbles and rattles. But that he's very capable and honest when actually being of service.

With those pleading puppy dog eyes that I can even see through the telephone wires because I've known them and the guy they belong to for over a quarter of a century, Mark is asking me to give Al Gore a chance to show what he's capable of.

The more I write this the more it becomes clear to me. When was Al Gore the most help to Mark? It was when he was still in Tennessee. Perhaps, the best thing I can do right now is to make sure that he gets back there. If he's half the man Mark believes him to be, he could do a lot of good right there in Tennessee, as the state definitely is going through its share of problems right now.

I never really did think of voting for Al Gore as voting for Al Gore, anyway--rather, as voting against George W. Bush.

And George W. Bush seems like someone who might prove useful in promoting one certain Presidential_Candidate I wouldn't hesitate to vote for when the time comes that he's in the running.

Oh yes! When I go to vote, I'll be wearing my custom-made t-shirt that says "Jim Scileppi 4 Prez! (a.s.a.p)."

And THAT, fellow Epinionators, is how I feel about this year's election! :o)

Re: reminds me of "Chain of Love" (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
I'm back from my trip. Just got in a few minutes ago, in fact. Talked to Mark, and he has helped me to come to a decision--in Al Gore's favor. Mark knows both Al and his late dad, and they both have helped him out a lot when he was in a jam. I told him that I had a problem with Al's not being able (and/or willing) to distinguish fact from fiction, and Mark said that this just had to do with his nervousness during public speaking--that he reacted by babbling. But that he's actually a very capable and honest guy. Mark's a great judge of character, and I'm partial to people who are good to Mark, as well. Mark and I know about the chain of love. Our friendship of over 25 years is based on it! :o)

As far as the Presidential race is concerned, I am disillusioned with both major party candidates. I have to go with a third-party cnadidate because the main two are so uninspiring.

The people in your story remind me of the kind people in the recent country hit, "The Chain of Love," by Clay Walker. It's a story song that told of a couple of Good Samaritans. The song has brought tears to my eyes several times.

Your story reminded me of something that happened in my life that very week in July 1989. A friend of mine had enjured her elbow and needed someone to walk her to the hospital. I offered to walk her, and she was very thankful, hugging me and calling me a good friend. Even though I did not do much, my friend Mary was grateful. Ironically, this occurred on July 5, 1989, almost the same day!

Re: Supreme Court (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
This would be a concern of mine, too.

By choice, I live by right-wing values but feel some of those values could become ugly when filtered through government.

While you and I have differing views of the divinity of Jesus, I believe we would both agree that one of His pet peeves was an equivalent climate in His time and place in earthly history.

This morning, I received an e-mail that demonstrated to me the repression of a Big Brother government--which is one thing I'm concerned about from the Gore camp. At that point, I leaned towards Bush.

Reading when you have to say reminds me that I would have at least one good reason to lean towards Gore.

This is going to be an especially difficult election for me to take part in. I'm certainly going to be praying a lot and probably won't know until the last minute how I'll actually be voting.

Keep an eye out for me! You'll know me by the window-sticker in my car (always visible) and t-shirt to match (when I wear it--which will be frequently, including on Election Day, itself). They say: Jim Scileppi 4 Prez (a.s.a.p.)!

Too bad there's at least a four-year wait for any chance of that happening! But it's certainly a nice thing to think about! :o)

Supreme Court (Reply to this comment)
by juliewh
In my opinion neither candidate is perfect; far from it! The one issue that is weighing heavy for me is that this next president will be replacing Supreme Court justices, and in my opinion Gore will keep the court more balanced. Bush will send it way over to the right.

Hope you had a wonderful nap! It's beautiful here this morning. It has been kinda rainy the last couple of days, but the sun's shining through the mist now. I hope the weather will be great for my trip (which has been postponed and postponed but begins tomorrow morning) as well as for the things I need to do around here in preparation for leaving. I'll have to check out your profile and see where you're from! :o)

Not to be rude or anything but my husband is in the military. And to be honest I am mad that nothing as been done yet over the bombing of the SSCole. Soliders died and even though I don't approve of war, I think that we need to send a message out that we are not going to put up with it. And just for the record Gore lies big time too.

One point for Gore--with reservations! Gore is so paranoid about the environment that he would tell farmers not to farm if they found an endangered amoeba within 50 miles of their farmland! :o)

Family is much more important and you're supposed to listen to your elders. Besides, Bush does lie and evade questions. We would be in war within months of him in office, plus keep destroying the environment.

I don't care for anyone running for Pres. this year so I won't even say who I am voting for. I hope that next elections we have better candidates to choose from. I think Bush and Gore have been being very childish. Have you seen the new snicker's commercial it expains it all. Love you AJ, Michelle
