One More StoryMay 17 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I grew up in a family of twelve. And being the oldest of ten children, I've seen my share of children's books. There are a plethora of them out there, some good, some educational, but a lot of them are just plain dumb. The good are the one's that get the child pointing at the pictures, laughing, placing themselves in the story, but most of all begging for more. If you've never heard the plea, "Just One More Story", you've probably never seen one of these "good" books. The educational children's book should have something to offer in exchange for the child's grueling task of learning. Some however are lacking this sugar coating, and the ability to capture the interest of the child. Even the dull though, can be livened up a bit, by an extremely experienced book reader. My Mother for instance could bring out the kid's side of any book. There is a limit to what even the best children's book reader can do, to enhance a story's appeal. Even my mother couldn't do much with George Orwell's classic "1984." So I'd keep as much apart from anything the kid might find himself also reading in school. And then you have the dumb. The one's that seem to never end. A good children's book can be found enjoyable by both the reader, and the listener. If you find it boring, and pointless, your child most likely will too. While looking for a good, and interesting children's book, try looking through a child's eye's, you might even consider walking on your knees. However, to save your old aching joints. Here are a few books that might interest you......and your kid :) The Stinky Cheese Man, and other tales, by John Sciesvka ages 3-7 King Bidgood's in the Bathtub, and he won't get out, by Audrey Wood's for ages 3-7 The Napping House, by Audrey Wood's (good for toddlers) All of our Noses are here, retold by Alvin Schwartz 3-7 |
