Half.com is a great place to do your online book, movie and music shopping & selling. I have had great luck finding good deals on books and finding new owners for books I have read. Shipping is far less that you pay from many other online merchants and using the site is a breeze.
Half.com is basically a giant used media store. Sellers enter items in to a database and then Half.com connects the buyers with sellers. Half.com is owned by Ebay and is in my opinion a much better solution for people selling & buying books, music, videos & games. With Half.com there is no waiting for auctions to close or getting outbid at the last minute, you simple buy the merchandise at the price it is offered and the order is confirmed and shipped to you within a few days. The site is also great for sellers since there are no fees for listing items, and a reasonable 15% commission on sales. Perhaps the only drawback is the limited shipping reimbursement offered to sellers that can be inadequate for heavier books. Sellers need to remember to build a dollar or two extra in to their price for very heavy books.
There are a few tips for successful selling on Half.com. First, remember to keep tabs on your inventory, frequently you can loose sales to others offering the same item for just a few pennies less. By monitoring the going rate of a item you can ensure your books are competitively priced and make more sales. Second, keep your listing accurate and confirm/ship your orders quickly. This helps you to get positive feedback that can lift you above other sellers that are not as good at “customer service.” Keep shipping materials at home ready to go, it will save you money over buying the items at the post office or shipping counter, and make it more convenient to run in to the post office to drop off shipments when they are ready to go. Finally, make sure you remind the clerk at the post office that you want the package to go BOOK RATE; it saves you a significant amount over other methods.
