Harry Who??

The first part of July all I heard about on the news was Harry Potter. I said to myself "Who is Harry Potter?" I asked my nine year old son if he knew anything about Harry Potter books. He said that he had never heard of him.

I kept watching the news in hope I could figure out what all the fuss was about. I saw teachers and parents on tv express their thoughts about the book. Many of them said that it had really encouraged their students and children to read.

That really got my attention. My son is going in fourth grade, but he is on third grade reading level and really has no interest in reading. I wondered if Nick would be interested in the books.

I also debated on whether the fact that the book spoke of wizards and witches would bother him. I thought it over and decided that it would not bother Nick.

I ordered all four of the books on July 6 and they were delivered last week.

I was also excited to read them, because the books really sparked my interest.

We sat down and I started reading "The Sorcerer's Stone". I read the first chapter and stopped. He begged me to continue. I continued to the second chapter and we had to stop for the night because it was getting late. He was very disappointed that we could not continue.

The next day we continued and I read chapter three. He would not let me stop. I read chapter four and told him would we continue when he returned on Sunday(I have been dying to read it while he was gone).

He just got back from his grandparents house and he is begging me to read to him again.

I never thought Nick would show such interest in any book. I hope that this series of books will make Nick realize that there are some great books and he can enjoy reading.

I am so thankful to J.K. Rowling's for writing these wonderful books. In my opinion these books will be classic children's books(and they are great for adults too).

I will read them to my two girls when they get old enough to understand them and I will also look forward to reading them to my grandchildren.

NOTE: I did not tell any details about the books, because every chapter leaves you in suspense and I don't want to ruin any of it for you.
